mmmmm cheese
I think the banana's would be filling too right? I haven't actually eaten a whole banana since surgery. The cheese though.. man that can get me into some serious trouble.. lol
But like you said, before it would have been something much worse like a box of oreo's.. so a cheese stick.. well, that's nothing to cry about.. right? Don't fret girlfriend.. you're doing great!!!! Keep up the good work ..

I think this is a great thread, and I love to bring it up. I tried to say this in one of the group meetings, but it didn't come out right. But I comprehend that most of the people that gained their weight back drink soda.
I have enough trouble with food not to bring soda back into my equasion.

Hey Traci, I sure wish I was there.... I checked out a support group thats 30 miles up the road from me and they said that ONLY PEOPLE WHO GO TO THAT DOCTOR is welcome!!!! HOW RUDE What is this world comming to? to they tell an alcoholic that they can't come to that group if they aren't from that area? I don't think so! I guess I have a project a head of me.... I will resolve this and get something going!

Hey Sue,
I know alot of people here live for the support meetings, however, I am so busy and all these kids of mine, I have only made it to two myself. I just find all that I need right here. You certainly are not alone in your quest in such a big place.
Your day is coming g/f, so try not to worry about a group right now. You will have your friends and family fresh post op. Then when you are feeling well maybe you can organize your own? You may be able to get a room from your Church once a month. I think you could begin to build your own foundation there. As many have done here.
Start your lung exercises now Suez, even if its just deep breathing in and out a few times. I had to use an incentive spirometer for two months and also use a cpap machine before I could get the surgery.
I will be praying for you g/f.
Hugs,
Traci

Thanks Traci- would love to meet you as well, you are so inspiring with all your success!!!! I agree about the soda... not drinking it makes me sad now, but I just can't risk screwing this surgery up.

Hey Traci,
You are so right, and actually I am not worried about the support group for myself, It's the fact we have a ton of people in my area who have had wls and quiet frankly many of them NEED someone or something and have no access to it. I guess I just worry to much about everyone else and not enough about my own needs.
and the lung exercises.......I know all about the spirometer everytime I had surgery they brought my little friend in and said here ya go now you have to use this so many times a day and it is important that you can reach this certaing number, boy did I stink at it. I also sleep with a cpap and I am to the point that I am finding it very beneficial. At first I hated it, I would destroy the mask in my sleep, but now I have had it for 7 months and I know I can tell when I have slept through the night with it and when I haven't.
Well I covet all your prayers and blessings as I go in tomorrow for my pre-op.... I know I will do just find, god Bless you all. and take care!

Another reason, as someone stated above, to avoid carbonation, is apparently (this according to a lecture at USC Hospitals) it leeches calcium out of our bodies when it's being digested. Much as I loved Diet Coke pre-op, I'm not supplimenting my calcium so I can eat food that takes any of it away!
Finally, my surgeon also works on pelvic floor disorders. Apparently carbonation increases urinary stress incontinence, something else I'd rather discourage.
Best,
Ezperanza

That's a New One
Boy, Ezpy, you're jumpin' into all kinds of controversial posts! The carbonation issue is hotly debated at times. In fact, I brought up the subject at a recent support group meeting and I thought Bridget was going to tackle me! LOL (Love ya, BridgetGirl!)
However, the fact that carbonation might contribute to urinary stress incontinence is enough for me to stay away. I had terrible stress incontinence before my surgery (can you say EMBARRASSING) and I sure as hell don't wanna go back there!
Thanks for the info.

Eeek! See, and here I thought I'd found a nice, quiet thread where I could be helpful!
I hear you on the urinary stress incontinance.... pre-op I needed to wear a pad most days. Especially when I was sneezing a lot (which since I have allergies was all the time). Nothing worse than hoping not to leak when you laugh.
Hey, that hasn't been a problem this week. Maybe it's a sign I've already lost weight?
Best,
Ezpy - apparently a lightening rod for trouble!

You're Right
I've heard that one can of soda depletes half of your calcium intake for a day!! That is enough to keep me away.. and the stress incontenance thing.. ack!! NO thanks.. first time I've heard it but thanks for sharing.. I've been tempted.. really tempted to try a diet orange soda when it is hot.. now I won't go there.. thanks for keepin me honest kiddo..

You're welcome. And I do understand. My diet Coke thing was a full scale addiction until November. I started weaning myself off it after hearing it was going to be forbidden post-op. By my surgery I was just drinking carbonated water with a little juice.
You know, I did have a diet soda a few days before surgery (just to say goodbye) and was really surprised at how full of chemicals it tasted.
Now what I miss is carbonated water. But not that much.
Best,
Ezpy - sippin' peppermint tea
