Default What vitamins do you take and what is the schedule for taking them?

I am pre-op right now but I'm trying to get all of my ducks in a row as far as the supplements I'm going to need before and after surgery.
Does anyone take VistaVitamins? Do you like them?

What vitamins do you take and what is the schedule at which you take them??

I haven't taken vitamins since i was a kid but since I'm going to have to take them for the rest of my life I figure I better get started and get used to it!

Thanks!!

I take Centrium now but I'm over a year out-regular not chewable. However, I used centrium chewables right after surgery. My day goes like this and has since wls in Feb 05. Morning 9:30 am-thyroid med, iron supplement-prescribed, zinc, and biotin-for hair loss. 8:30 pm 2 Centrium tabs. 1 am calcium supplements. Now, I know that sounds weird, but I work nights (4:30 pm to 1 am) so this is the best solution for me. My labs have been good. I'm sure you can adjust this to fit your schedule. There are quite a few folks here who use Vista vitamins so maybe they can help you with that.

Default Vitamin schedule

6 a.m.: While I'm prepping breakfast, I ta myke B12 sublingual tablet put it under my tongue, and let it dissolve.

Then, in between bites of cottage cheese and fruit:

Prenatal 19 tablet (prescription - I was low on iron, and this fixed it)
Beta Carotene gel caps (same as Vitamin A)
Flax Seed oil gel caps (helps keep you regular)

10 a.m. (ish) 500 mg calcium citrate chewable (Caltrate brand lemon cream)

noon (ish) 500 mg calcium citrate after I eat.

6 pm (ish) Centrum multivitamin after dinner

8 pm (ish) 500 mg calcium citrate chewable

Thanks everyone!

Ok, another question. Do you have a pill case that you carry around with you all of the time to make sure when you are out that you take your vitamins? Do you have your system memorized now or do you still have to refer to a sheet to make sure you are getting everything?

I am HORRIBLE at taking any kind of pills, I always seem to forget but this is going to be a time that I can't forget. I'm trying to fiind a way that I don't have to take a millions different pills because I'll be less likely to forget that way.

Any other tips?

Taking your vitamins will be ONE of the most important things you can do, post-op! You'll have to do whatever it takes to make sure you remember... to stay healthy and happy for life!

My doc told me that we need 1000mg of calcium citrate every day, BUT our bodies will only absorb 500mg at a time, AND we cannot take it with any other meds (because it causes problems for the absorbtion of meds). So...

I take half a 1000mg calcium citrate chewable in the AM. I chew the other half mid-day.
In the evening, I take my Centrum Chewable multi-vitamin.
Before bed, I take my iron & biotin.
And every month, I give myself a B-12 injection.

I do keep my meds in a weekly pill case (the big one) so I can make sure to take everything I need without fail. But due to my scheduling, I don't have to lug it around with me.

Good luck to you!

I don't have a big regimen of stuff I take. I am starting with the basics. I take a liquid vitamin in the am with breakfast. I no longer supplement with B12 or Biotin since they are now in the vitamin I take. I use those tiny little ziplock bags they make for crafts (cheaper than the tiny ones they make for meds) and I put in my 2 calcium with D (or 2 chewable calcium citrate chews) and my iron capsule. I just spread them out throughout the day whenever I drink. My levels were all fine, so it's working for me. The liquid vitamin is one Robin recommended.

I've set my schedule on my cell and it goes off right at the time I need to take a certain vitamin and I made sure I entered what it is I have to take.

This is my routine:
6:30am thyroid med
10:30 acid blocker
11ish 500mg calcium (viactiv chewable)
3:00pm 2 multivitamin kid chewables
5ish 500mg of calcium
7ish Iron
9:45pm 1000mcg of B-12 sublingual liquid
10:30pm acid blocker

Oh and I just found out I need to take b1--thiamine but I haven't had a chance to get it. I also want to start on biotin but I'm not sure when to take it.
