Exclamation Important

This is quite a long story but I will do my best to shorten it. A few months ago my wife began having trouble with her vision. (WLS in May of '02) She went to her normal eye doc and found out her vision was 20/50. This was a fairly sudden and severe change. She was referred to a specialist who ran all kinds of tests including photographing her retina. He couldn't find anything to explain it. He referred her to another specialist (optic neurologist). He, also ran a lot of tests with the same results. No explanation. So he referred her to a neurologist. All during this time she was preparing to have her tummy tuck. The neurologist ran a full battery of tests including an MRI and a spinal tap. He suspected MS. The MRI showed some abnormalities in her "white matter". Also, he had them run a full blood panel which required about 20 vials of blood. The tummy tuck was put on hold pending the results of the neurologist. Last Monday was her final tests, and results. The neurologist diagnosed it as "Clinically Isolated Syndrome". In other words, he couldn't find anything wrong and gave her the ok to have her tummy tuck, which she is going to have in October.

HOWEVER, one of the things they found was a severe vitamin deficiency. Especially vitamins B6 and B12. As it turns out, she had stopped taking her vitamins, including her sub-lingual B12. She began a regiment of shots from her PCP this past Thursday. I get to give her shots in the butt for a week, then weekly, then monthly. Well, today she went back to her eye doctor where the whole thing started. Her vision is now 20/30 and she only needs a mild prescription for glasses. Turns out the whole thing was caused by a lack of vitamins especially B12. So, the whole point of this post is this: BE SURE you get your vitamin B12 however you choose to take it. It's really quite remarkable what effect a vitamin deficiency can have.

Thumbs up Wow

Woody,

Whoa man. That is some valuable information there. Thanks for the heads up. I really needed to hear that, as I am having a tough time remembering to take my vitamins. I'll make sure I'm better about it now, for sure.

Thumbs up Thank you!

Woody,
Thank you for that gentle reminder to us all. I took my weekly dosage of B12 today. It's not so bad. I'm happy to hear that your wife is doing better.
Thanks again!

Red face Woody!!!

I've missed you SO much, and have thought of you and your wife daily, so, hence, you've both been in my prayers!
Thanks for the info about the vitamins and minerals! After having been a nurse for over 20 years, I'm probably a fanatic about taking meds and do so religiously, so, I have no problem with that, but, it never hurts to be reminded! Thank you!!!!!! And welcome back!!
You were missed and so was your good input, we need it!!!

Default Woody and Terry

I'm so glad to hear that it was something "curable" and not life threatening! I love you guys and don't know what I'd do if something terrible happened to either one of you!! Aren't you glad YOU get to give her pains in the butt for all the ones she's given you?? LOL Give Terry, Bri, Michael and yourself a hug for me. Missing you much and lots of LOVE!!

Default Wow, Woody,

I'm sorry your wife had to go through all that (well, you too). Thank you so much for scaring me straight. I promise to always take my vitamines. Thanks for sharing this story with all of us. You may have saved someone else from going through this!

With fond gratitude,
Kim

Woody,
Thanks for the words of wisdom. Sorry our lesson had to be at your wife's expense. It is so valuable having long time post-ops on the board, your experiences are so helpful to us semi-newbies! Thanks again and best wishes to both of you
