Talking A New Recipe for the New Post-Ops!

Hi guys and gals! Well, I woke up early this morning with a big smile on my face - today is my cream soup/protein drink/pudding day! WHOOHOO! If you would have told me two weeks ago that I would have been this excited, I wouldn't have believed you.

Anyway, I've created a little concoction that I think is great and I haven't seen posted on either this site or Yahoo before. I used to be a professional cook, so as I find things that work for me, I'll share with you in hopes that they can be of some help.

Okay, I found a protein powder that I think has the best numbers I've seen: 1 scoop, 24 g protein, 0 sugar. It's the Whole Foods 365 store brand Soy Protein Powder. It's vegetarian and I think it comes in 2 flavors, chocolate and vanilla. Now, I'm not a vegetarian, but I prefer to eat like one , so I bought Unsweetened Silk Soymilk to make my protein drinks. It has 4 g protein and 0 sugars (and tastes like it - ugh ) These two items make up a smoothie base to which you can add any powdered sugar free drink mix to later to add taste. I'm currently sipping on a concoction of 1 cup of the base with a teaspoon of Lipton's Diet Peach Iced Tea mixed in. It tastes like a thin peach smoothie - WHOOHOO! Anyway, here's the recipe:

Smoothie Base:
2 scoops Whole Foods Soy Protein Powder
1 cup Unsweetened Silk Soy Milk
1 cup water
1 cup ice

Smoothie:
1/4 cup of water
desired amount of flavored sugar free mix, which can include:
Crystal Light
Lipton Flavored Iced Tea
Jello Mix
Pudding Mix

Obviously, as my pouch heals and gets stronger, I will adjust to omit the extra water and add fruit, sf sorbet or ice cream, etc. For now, I have about 2 1/2 cups of base to sip throughout the day. If I don't get it all in, I still will have consumed close to 40-45 g of protein, which I think is a great start.

Anyway, if you try this, let me know how you like it and if you have any modifications to share. LONG LIVE CREAM SOUP DAY!
