sources of protein
 Hi all,
I am new and just found you guys - I had surgery - gb lap - in August and have lost 70 since - 30 prior -
Anyway - I am sick of the same chicken and stuff - can't stomach the protein powder stuff either -
What about steak umms and chicken wings w/o skin?
I need something different - I am picky and don't do tuna btw.
Thanks
Juli

Fish, nuts, peas, beans, any dairy product, pork, all have protein.

Protein sources are everywhere (long)
Juli,
I had some struggles on the protein side, as I have yet to find a protein shake that I can stand. Unfortunately, tuna is one place where I get about a third of my protein almost daily--which is out for you.
Other protein resources for me - protein bars - the Advant-Edge Carb Control bars have zero or just one gram of sugar, and few or no sugar alcohols, which I have to avoid, as well. They also taste sickeningly sweet to me, but I can gag them down if I think about something else while I'm gnawing on them.
Breakfast: one scrambled egg with an ounce of cheese and an ounce of ham is about 18-20 grams of protein. A half-cup of fat-free cottage cheese with no-sugar-added canned fruit is about 13 grams of protein. Yogurt is also high in protein, and you can eat it any time of day.
Lunch/dinner: If you can stand salmon, you can get the pouches or cans, and make salmon salad. I also buy cod to make for dinner - it's a terrific source of protein. You can also buy the navy bean soup in a bag and 15-bean soup in a bag, make to the directions, and freeze the excess in small containers to eat later.
Snacks: sunflower seeds (chew them VERY well) are about 8 grams of protein per quarter cup. Soy chips are also pretty edible - you can usually find them in the organic section of the grocery store. Pumpkin seeds are also high in protein, but I haven't found a commercial version that I can handle - too much black pepper, usually. A lot of people here eat beef jerky, but I don't - it tastes bad to me, but then I like tuna!
Other suggestions: Soy nuts are only vaguely edible alone, but you can chop them up in a blender/food processor and use them for a crunchy shake-n-bake type thing for chicken, adding to the protein.
With all these things, I run about 65 grams of protein a day, about ten grams more than the minimum my dietican requires. I eat about four times a day now.
Hope this helps!

Some of us have gotten very creative with the protein powders. I found I can hide 1/2 to 1 scoop of vanilla in hot cocoa. I also add powdered milk to soups, hot tea, hot cocoa. I also eat beef or turkey jerky, or turkey pepperoni......or soy nuts as a snack.

Try the Boost Breeze protien drink - it is pretty high in protien and the taste is not bad either. I like the Berry myself - the Tropical is ok too.

I've been doing much better with my protein then I was in the beginning. Protein bars are my friends! I use the Pur Protein Smo'res flavor, and the South Beach Peanut butter ones. I will have a few bites several times through out the day and before I know it, 20 grams of protein, plus they are sweet, even though they are low carb. So it satisfies my sweet tooth.

Just about anything can be that consistency if you add enough liquid and blend it. For me it was a matter of mindset.........what I could stand the thought of.....ugh. I had this weird thing where I could only eat a food one time, then the thought of it would gross me out. Thank goodness that passed! One thing I did was puree a can of bean and ham soup and add a little melted cheese. It was easy to make thin enough and had good flavor and tons of protein. I also add dry milk to tea and hot chocolate to add some extra protein. Have you tried adding the vanilla supplement to crystal light or hot cocoa? I had a real issue with the shakes, but am able to do that.

I pureed Lean Cuisine dinners
Seriously - when I was on the thin, then thicker pureed food, I took the Lean Cuisine Swedish Meatballs and the Lean Cuisine Beef Stroganoff and stuck 'em in the blender, and added a little milk to them (I cooked 'em first). They taste like real food, don't have too much sugar, and were a lifesaver for me... again, that's just me. The good part was one frozen dinner was good for about four meals, since I could eat so little. They heat back up again really well, too.
