? about protein powder
Is it ok to add the powders into hot foods or liquids? The containers don't say not to, but they seem to list all cold drinks. I've been able to hide my vanilla in hot chocolate, but am wondering if that's ok. I hope so, cause I got some unflavored to try to hide in hot tea or soup. Does anyone know for sure?

Marty I use the unjury protein powder. Mine says not to put in liquids over 130 F but otherwise it is ok. Mine says you can put in warm soup and tea. I use unflavored and mix it in everything so you should be ok...Good Luck

Ok, how hot is 130 F? I use fairly hot water for the cocoa or it just doesn't all mix well and taste good. Is that too hot? I wonder why mine doesn't mention a temp? Can you tell it's in cold beverages? I feel like I'll smell it or notice a texture difference.......ick!

Hi Marty, I am not real sure how hot 130F is but I mix in with my soups and it does ok. But I do notice that sometimes I will get a little bit that wont mix up well and i will just keep mixing it and it is fine. I can't taste anything, wether it be in hot or cold stuff. I mix it with Crystal Light and can't taste anything. I am so taste sensitive. I had a real hard with the protein powders myself because they all seemed gritty and or smelled nasty. I find this one to be the best. I have tried so many of them! You might want to give it a try! Good Luck.

Well dang......now I keep reading about Unjury. I just bought a big container from Vitamin World that I'm gonna have to try first. I will try it tonight in hot tea. I use a large thing of tea or cocoa each am and pm to get my liquids in. They total like 44 oz, so I don't have to obsess about what I drink during the day. I've been getting mega protein in the cocoa, but the tea only has the 10 grams from the powdered milk. I'd love to get most of my liquid and protein at the beginning and end of my day so I can stop worrying about it while I go about my life. Those are my two biggest diet struggles. Please cross your fingers that I can drink it. I did try vanilla in a Crystal Light.......it tasted ok, like a smoothie almost, but I had to drink it with a straw because I could smell it! I feel like a protein head case!

Marty...Marty...That was a trip! I sure hope you like it. I can't smell it or taste it and like you I am a protein head case. I have such a hard time with the protein..Feel proud because your getting in way more liquid and protein then I am. I wish I could get that much in but I have such a hard time with it. I am still on the liquid diet and I am starting to gag on everything as I just can't seem to eat the same things over and over..I have been living on SF Jello, SF popsicles and soups..I just can't get any of that down anymore. I feel like I am going to starve but then I drink a few sips of water and get through it. I am trying some crushed pineapple right now, just sucking on it and then spitting it out just trying a different taste in my mouth.
I am sure you are going to like the unjury-i haven't had any problem with it, no smell and no taste for me! I split it in two scoops because one big scoop seems like alot. I know I am really bad. I take half a scoop in something then later do another half of scoop! I wish you lots of luck! Let me know how you like it!

Aha....another protein head case! lol One time I even put a straw waaaaaay back in the back of my throat trying not to taste the protein supplement. That's bad! It does get better when you can eat. Although, even then I would crave something, eat it once and feel like I never wanted to eat it again. Now it's ok and I am 11 weeks out. The good thing for me is that I don't have to dainty sip.......so I can drink a bunch of my liquid and protein in one sitting and get it out of the way. I can drink 24 oz easy in 20-30 minutes. It seems easier to tolerate warm beverages......and it's cold and snowing here in Ohio, so it works well for me. How much longer is the liquid phase for you? I had to start food early because with my mental games/nausea I felt I was gonna starve. It worked out ok for me, and I was very careful. I wouldn't recommend it though.....it's a huge medical risk. Have you tried pudding and yogurt? Those at least feel more like food. The sugar free pudding that you add milk and actually cook is nice. I eat low carb yogurt, which I like, to me they taste creamier. I know others who hate that kind. I could offer more suggestions, but you've probably thought of them and shuddered already. Hang in there.......it will pass.

WOW the straw technique, tried that one too..I about gagged on the damn straw I tried to put it back so damn far. I don't have to drink dainty sips either, I can drink a decent sip and I am ok..My problem with the sipping is I want to chug the whole damn bottle of water. I get thirsty alot so when I am just sippin I think it makes it worse. I want to tip the bottle and just chug it as I feel like I am going to die of dehyrdration. I know it is all mental but then again nobody ever said I was normal. It is snowing here in Wisconsin too so warm stuff is ok. I tried the SF hot cocoa and that wasn't bad but I could only get in like 3 sips and then I was done. I have pushed the limit with the food thing so many times I even ate some mashed potatoes tonight. Just a little tiny bit but I had to. I don't seem to have much of an issue with anything. Everything seems to go down smoothly. I haven't tried the SF pudding you cook yourself yet maybe that would be better and I could eat it warm or something. I have tried the SF puddings that come ready made in the little cups and I ate like 3 baby spoons of it and was sick of it. I have been trying to force myself to eat those Dannon light n fits and I hate them. Something about them just makes me want to gag. Not sure exactly what. I am not suppose to come off the liquid diet phase until December 2 when I see my surgeon for a check up..I am going to have to tell him I have really pushed it! Sometimes it makes me feel like a failure that I can't get through this phase but the liquids are just killing me these days. I am sure when I come off of this phase I will never want to see another Jello or soup again in my life!

And here I thought the straw technique was mine exclusively! Ok, how about hot tea with unflavored protein......maybe that won't get to you as fast. I had an issue with chocolate stuff early on. I guess because we had pudding, fudgesicles, hot chocolate, chocolate protein, sugar free chocolate milk, etc. I was tired of sweet tasting stuff anyhow. I did egg drop soup early on for something different. I eat Blue Bunny low carb yogurt mostly. Cottage cheese isn't too hard to get to a decent texture......and it has a lot of protein. I do feel for you, it sounds like your struggles are almost identical to mine. Just remember that if you don't get that protein in you can lose more hair or have other health issues. Just keep plugging away. It really will get better.......very soon!

i love all the ideas - thank you so much - as i too am so sick of the liquids and i know i have not gotten in enough protein in a month so i know my hair will be falling out - or can i still prevent it by getting in the protein now???i am guessing i am to late but i ordered the samples on unjury in the flavors and tastless the nectar made me gag but i only tried one and maybe it was to strong....i am sure it is mental for me too everything makes me want to gag....
when will this end - i am still thinking it was not worth it...i hate getting sick and i have gotten sick TO much for me to think it was worth it...
