Default Do you keep a food log / journal?

Just wondering if any of you (particularly post-ops) maintain a log of what you eat. Many consultants and programs for weight loss recommend this to help keep from eating too much - do you use it to keep from eating too little (protein mostly)?

And if you do - do any of you use a computer program or handheld (Palm OS etc) program to help keep track? Do you like using it? Is it useful?

Thanks for any info. BTW took a look at fitday.com, but I don't like their privacy policy - looks like a way to attract advertising spam...

Red face Don't really know of another one besides FitDay.com...

I really like FitDay.com and I've never received any e-mails at all from them, much less spam. I use it to record my food, exercise, and weight and I really like their reports section so that I can track my progress over time. It helps me to ensure that I'm getting enough protein and you can even see how your vitamin and mineral consumption is going. I try to plan what I'm going to eat throughout the day so I'm not left with the option of making a bad choice. I usually enter my whole day's plan in the morning or afternoon. It's helpful when I see what I plan to eat and sometimes find that it's more calories or fat than I would like, then I just change my plan accordingly.

Anyway, I just wanted to reassure you that I've been using FitDay.com now for about 3 months and I haven't had any e-mails, selling, or spam come my way what so ever. WebMD.com used to have a function that was very similar, but they got rid of that a few years ago. I did an internet search for food journal 3 months ago and FitDay.com was the only thing that popped up that looked like what I needed.

Good luck!

Default Phil,

I'm a newbee, but I have been keeping a log. Not only to make sure I've had something to eat, but mainly to make sure I keep track of my meds and when I take them. Old age you know, memory is the first thing to go.

I tried Fitday.com and got too confused by it and sometimes it didn't let me enter the amount that I ate. So, I ditched that after a few days and I do not keep a log of what I eat now. Maybe I should but I don't. Although, if things started to get "crazy" I would not be opposed to doing it.

I don't use one. Then again, it's not like I eat so much that I can't keep track of it in my head.

I use fitday and love it. However I bought it instead of using the one online. It has so many great features and I love the little graphs! Keeping a food log is a great idea. With fitday you can also make journal entries. It is good to note things that make you feel icky. You can see patterns if you are keeping a log or journal of what you eat.

I've also enjoyed seeing the graph that shows my weight loss. There is a pattern there as well. I lose then level out, lose then level out, etc.
