ThinnerTimes Care Package
Dear ThinnerTimes Forum Users,
We are thinking about putting together a nutritional "care package" for post-op gastric bypass patients and we would love to get your input.
Basically, there are a whole bunch of snacks, vitamins, and other goodies that we recommend that patients get for after their surgery to stay healthy.
The care package concept is this: we would partner up with a few vitamin and nutritional food suppliers and make an all-inclusive care package that we would sell for around $100 (more or less). It would be a starter package, and would include things like various types of high-protein beans and some other recipes (which haven’t been decided on yet), as well as vitamin supplements.
The question is - do you think that you or your friends would purchase a care package like this, or do you prefer buying your own products?
If the majority of you feel that this is a good idea, we will do another poll to get product/snack recommendations from current post-op patients.

RE: Care Package
John,
I can't speak for everyone, but I think it is an ok idea for some people. I personally wouldn't have bought it because I had no idea what my body would like or could tollerate. Turns out it was a good thing I didn't really stock up because I could barely tollerate anything and still have trouble with some things almost 5 months out. However, I would be more then happy to donate all my surplus of broth, creamed soups, surgar free jello, and bugs bunny vitamins. I think I even have a few pre-mixed protien shakes to get rid of still that I can't tollerate.
It could be a good idea for some though so don't just take my word for it. I think it is a great idea, just don't know how many would buy it.

John,
Since I'm pre-op, I thought I would throw in my $.02 worth. From what I've heard from other post ops, the days and weeks that follow WLS change your tastes. I would not be interested in buying anything prepackaged because of this. I might be swayed if there was feedback to the quality and taste. Do I hear free samples? LOL

I agree, it took a lot of trial and error to find a protein suppliment and bar that I could tolerate. I think a better idea would be to see which manufacturers would donate samples of their products for patients to try to see what they could tolerate after surgery.

I agree with Mary's idea of donated samples. A $100 is a lot to spend on a care package of stuff that you might not use.

New Thoughts
Hi
This is now Thursday and I had surgery on Monday. I know $100 can sound like a lot of money, but I know there was some serious scrambling to remember to buy all the things requested, like Jello, etc . . . I think a package would be sound advice for someone like me who is overwhelmed anyway with remembering and doing everything right. I happen to be one of the ones that is tolerating most things so far.
Thanks Christina for your input. That would be very helpful about bringing in old things for new preops. I hadn't thought of it and probably wouldn't have suggested it but I definitely would be in for it. And from what I have read, the others could just take what they can tolerate. Thanks for the very good idea.

I too had a problem with what I could tolerate after WLS. I would not want to invest that much money on things I was unsure of. Just my own personal opinion!

I understand how you feel.. but I think some of us post ops need to get together clear out our cupboards from our first stage foods that we will NEVER eat again and get some care packages together for pre-ops. We could bring them to the pre-op support groups and give them away for FREE!!! Who's in??
Just a thought..

I would be interested in buying a package deal. I haven't had my surgery yet but I am sure with all the things that are going and and changing it would be nice to have package of stuff to try. I would be very helpful for me. But I think $100 dollars is a lot of money. But it would depend on what's in the package.
Just my thoughts.
