Default Protein, protein, protein, protein, protein!!!!

Hi there,

I just had my two week check-up and bloods were all good. We have all read the horror stories and know that, amongst other things, we need to eat protein to prevent malnutrition and associated problems.

GBP patients need to about 0.5-0.75 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight.

The biggest thing I needed to understand is that 30 gr. of chicken DOES NOT equal 30 gr. of protein and that you need to check labels, however it is difficult to check labels on “normal food”.

I therefore searched the internet and found these tables that indicate the protein contents for a lot of food items. Please note that being a stapler; you will need to watch the calorie- and fat-intake as well.

Hopes it helps, it was an eye-opener to me!

Moral of the story: use the items that contain the highest amount of protein for the lowest number of calories and fat content!

As per the Baron:

THE IDEAL MEAL FOR WEIGHT LOSS
The ideal meal is one that is made up of the following: ½ of your meal to be low fat protein, ¼ of your meal low starch vegetables and ¼ of your meal solid fruits. This type of meal will stay in your pouch a long time and is good for your health

Hope this helps!

Excellent post!

The only thing I'd question is protein.

I'm 111lb (50.3kg).

.05g protein gives me 25g. 0.75g/kg = 37.7g protein. That isn't sufficient.

You'll get differing opinions but personally, I'd recommend 60g of protein/day at a minimum.

Hi BibiH

I just love this post.. You've just saved me a lot of work. I will use this as a general guide, I may still need to check my portion sizes though - at a glance it sure helps with my monthly grocery shopping choices.

Thanks for doing this.

Thanks for posting this Bibi - great information - don't know how I missed this before! It will sure help me when choosing high protein low fat foods to eat. I've just begun to be able to stomach (or pouch!!!lol) chicken in any amount so will lead up to 100grams at a meal over time. Thanks again!
