Celebrate now has calcium creamy bites
Have you seen Celebrate's new calcium product? It's lemon creamy bites. Each bite has 500 mg of calcium. I'm interested in trying them. The only thing is, they seem kind of expensive. It is $12.99 for a box of 30 bites. At 500 mg each, you'd need three a day, so one box would only last you ten days. That would be $39 a month for calcium.

Hey, that's good to hear. Thanks for the heads up.
Maybe they'll knock the prices down. We ought to all pool our money and start a reasonable line of post WLS supplements.

Are they the same as the ones Bariatric Advantage has? I can't remember the price on those, but I do remember they were kind of pricey.
I had a sample of the BA ones, and they were really good...but for now I'm still choking down the big pills instead. I can swallow those better than I can swallow the big price tag of the Creamy Bites.

I took a look: http://www.celebratevitamins.com/lin...oduct_info.php
I thought the box looked familiar - turns out, apart from the name, the box is identical to my beloved Citracal Creamy Bites (now discontinued): http://www.citracal.com/Product/Creamy-Bites.aspx
But that is a little pricey.
Bariatric Advantages Chewy Bites are $9.99 for 60 but then you do need 2 of them to get your 500mg.
Celebrate = $0.43 per 500mg.
BA = $0.33 per 500mg.
I confess. I do use BA's Chewy Bites (chocolate and lemon flavour) but I only use them for 1 dose of calcium a day.
Sherry,
I can only speak from my experience with BA's Chocolate Chewy Bites and they are definately not the same as the old Citracal Creamy Bites. They were very smooth in texture and were a definate chocolate flavour rather than a slightly gritty chocolate brownie flavour. The lemon is pretty tart but good.

Someone on Obesity Help says that the Celebrate ones are like the old Citracal ones. Don't know if that's accurate or not. I'm sure Celebrate will send samples to anyone that wants to try them.
I would just have a hard time paying that much for calcium. Although I use the Celebrate ENS which is $49 a month. That is the only way I can get my vitamins down right now, though.

I also do the BA chewy bites- Makes me at least "pretend" that I am having something real- (close to chocolate). Although, my labs continue to be low, so I am going to have to investigate some other resource as well. I am happy to hear we are getting more "choices". There used to be nothing out there for us.
Happy thoughts.

Amy,
Labwork can only tell you the level of calcium in your blood - not what's stored in your bones and that's important thing as far as osteoporosis is concerned.
Quote:
|
The body precisely controls the amount of calcium in cells and blood. The body moves calcium out of bones into blood as needed to maintain a steady level of calcium in the blood. If people do not consume enough calcium, too much calcium is mobilized from the bones, weakening them. Osteoporosis can result. To maintain a normal level of calcium in blood without weakening the bones, people need to consume at least 1,000 to 1,500 milligrams of calcium a day. The level of calcium in blood is regulated primarily by two hormones: parathyroid hormone and calcitonin.
|
If you haven't had a DEXA scan to measure your bone density, you should ask for one. It's the only of detecting osteoporosis.

I got some info from Vic about these babies and thought I should pass it along. If you liked the Citracal from long ago you should like these!! The two have teamed up together to develop them.

Celebrate Vitamins Launches Creamy Bites

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been hinting around at some new additions to our product line-up and here is the first one. We have teamed up with the company that used to make Creamy Bites (for Citracal) and we now have them available through our website. If you are familiar with this product, then you are probably pretty excited. If you are not, let me tell you about it. Each piece contains 500 mg of calcium citrate and 400 IU of vitamin D. Every piece is individually sealed for freshness and will remain moist and delicious until you are ready to enjoy it. And I do mean, enjoy it. These are absolutely delicious. The first flavor being released is Lemon Cream with Chocolate Fudge soon to follow.
Each piece is 40 calories and is sweetened with 3 g of sugar. This may scare some people off, which is ok, but it all depends on how you are with taking your calcium. This product is great as a treat or for people who simply hate the texture of chewables and don't like the number of tablets that are required.
However you decide to take your calcium is up to you, but just make sure that you take it and make sure that it is NOT calcium carbonate. With this product added to our line-up, we offer tablet, 2 size chewables (in 3 flavors) and drink mix. There should be something that we have that will work for you. Give us a try.

Well ladies I taste tested these today at the Walk from Obesity. Vic himself was there to talk to. I also taste tested the BA chewies and in my opinion the Celebrate is many, many times better. No comparison in my book at all. These are creamy unlike the BA ones which were more chewy and left a grainy residual. There wasn't any graininess with the Celebrate.

I think I'm gonna order a box. It's time to order more ENS anyway so maybe I'll just add on a box of these. I still think they are kinda costly. But I get 1000 mg of calcium per day in my ENS so I only need one additional dose of 500 mg. So maybe I'll try one of these a day for a while.
