Default Another Vitamin question...

If you are able to swallow pills at say, 5-6 weeks out, is there a medical reason not to? If you arent getting enough from the chewables or aren't able to tolerate them, can you take the pills if they dont cause you grief? I know the doctor says chewables for 3 months. Is that because you may have trouble swallowing?

your pouch is healing and may be very sensitive...that and your body has problems breaking down the pill so you can absorb it....absorbtion is the biggest problem for you

My doctor recommended chewable vitamins forever, because they would be absorbed better. He was fine with me swallowing pills right after surgery, though. I am on a couple different antidepressants and they were giving those to me in the hospital the same day I had surgery and I swallowed them. Personally, despite what my doctor said, I think bariatric vitamins that you swallow, like the Celebrate capsules, are probably fine. They are specifically designed for WLS patients and I think they should be absorbed OK.

Let me add that I am not a doctor and you shouldn't take my advice over that of your doctor, OK?

Lol, no worries, Kelly! I just wanna get a general idea of what people have been told. I have not had the opportunity to ask the reasoning behind it yet. I will add it to my list though! My surgery is the 29th of this month and, I am trying to get everything in order and work out the "what if's". Thank you so much for your replies!

Thank you Sue. I was wondering if it might be a healing process thing. So much to learn and, so little time to learn it!

I take regular pills/capsules. Chewables leave a gnarly taste in my mouth. It is all personal preference I guess. I don't see why not unless your doctor forbids them.

You get the thumbs up from me.

I take a chewable Multivitamin and tablets for iron, calcium and biotin. The calcium starts to disolve in my mouth if I don't swallow it right away so I tend to think there would not be an issue with it not breaking down in time to be absorbed.

An alternative to chewables and capsules is Celebrate ENS, which is what I use. It's a drink mix. It is a multivitamin plus calcium

A drink mix vitamin...I will have to look into that! I have another question while I am on the topic. They say you need to take 2 of this, and 3 of that, and don't forget 5 of those. Can you take them all together? I know about the Iron and Calcium not being mixed up. I was wondering if BOTH multi's could be taken together, or both calciums together. That way my vitamin intake isn't spread out through the day?
