Default Protein??

Is 15grams of protein sufficient for a protein shake prior to surgery? Am starting the liver shrink diet the 17th and just ordered 14 shakes and 14 bars of different flavors from vitalady.com to try out and determine which tastes the best. The shakes were 15 grams of protein and the bars were 15 grams of protein too.

Did I screw up? $60 bucks worth I sure hope not!

TIA,

Lisa

I did Atkins shakes for my pre-op diet, which my surgeon OK'd, and I think they have 15 grams of protein. After surgery, though, you may want to try something with a bit more protein. That's just because you're going to have trouble getting a lot in after surgery, so the more protein per ounce, the easier it will be for you. Well that, plus you need a little more protein post-op than you do pre-op. But what you got now should be OK for pre-op, I think.

You should know that your tastes may well change after surgery, so the flavors you like now, you might not like so much post-op. So you might have to experiment again then with different brands and flavors.

Kelly

Hi Lisa,

I dont think you did. I hope you have success though with what you got. I know the High Protein Meal replacement that Bariatric Advantage sells actually works as they have science behind their product. They have Ct scans and MRI's of the liver before and after. Just an FYI for you. Check them, out here if you would like.

I haven't tried them yet, but quite a few people here like the Chike protein shakes as well.
Bariatric Vitamins | Gastric Bypass Vitamins | Celebrate Bariatric Vitamins

They sell them as tubs and as ready to drink singles.
