Silly Question
But....mathematics was never my strong suite. I am wondering how ounces compares to cups? Could someone give me the comparables? For example, how many ounces is a half cup? What would 4 oz be compared to??? Just looking so I have something to compare to when i start my post-op diet.

1 cup = 8oz
1/2 cup = 4oz
I suck at math as well and the only way I survived trying to figure out portions was with my three best friends. My silicone measuring cups, small appetizer plates and my digital food scale. I really recommend getting those if you can. Especially since I think what got most of us where we are was a lack of portion control. I know that was the case for me.
I used to eat out of these huge soup bowls that I would fill to the rim with food. The other day just for giggles I filled it with water to see how much they hold. They hold over 4 cups!!!! I could clear one of those out and then go back for more.
My husband still does it, but he is one "THOSE" people who eats whatever he wants and is skinny as a rail. I cannot watch him eat like that now, freaks me out!
Hope that helps you hun.

No question is silly Courtney. Unless it is about eating long noodles vs. short noodles. Right Joe?
Yeah 8 oz is a cup and so on.
I got some measuring cups at wally world that have it broken down in cups and ounces. they come in handy and were cheap too.
Good luck.

i went to walmart and i got 1/2 cup (4 oz) gladware cups. they come 8 to a set, less than $3. It really opened my eyes to how small our pouch will be. I have a friend that is 2 years post op and she has these, she puts all her meals in them. i think it really does help. portion control plus visual aide. Just a thought

I use these things every day or atleast something similar. Note, however, that the full measure is actually 2/3 of a cup - at least mine are. The half cup measure is only to the ridge on the inside of the container. They are also very handy for using when you are weighing food, ingredients etc.

thanks so much everyone for your suggestions and comments!! I'm very nervous about overeating once I have my surgery and can eat solid foods again. I'm also an emotional eater so I'm all-around stressed that this is not going to work for me. I do, however, know I have friends here that I can talk to so thanks so much!!!!

8 oz is a cup...but I eat by ounces not cups- such as 2 oz veggies, 3 oz meat...
you can go online and look up this info just google food ratios or cups to ounces and such...I have a cook book which breaks it all down too- look in the back of your maybe you have one too

I went and bought a digital scale, cost $40.00 but that is just my way of knowing exact measurements. I had a dial scale and compared the two when I got home. The dial was off by 1 oz.
