An "LSD" question
I'm on day two of the Liver Shrinking Diet and I've tried contacting my nutritionist, but she's not getting back. Would sauerkraut be on the "okay" list? I know most people aren't a fan, but it would make this a lot easier.
Also, has anyone used Prostat 64? I have yet to find a protein shake that doesn't make me heave. I'm not lactose intolerant, it's just the taste and smell.
Thanks!

You and I were probably at the same group. St. Mary's? If so, I was the one who asked about blackbean burgers and pita bread. I'm using Bautista as well.

Prostat 64 is collagen protein, which we don't absorb very well. It's not a very good choice as far as protein supplements go. Whey or soy isolate protein is best. I'm sorry to hear the moderator of your support group is encouraging people to use this. It really bugs me when people who should know better give out bad advice. It's like when docs tell people to take Flintstones vitamins and Tums.
Anyway, if you use Prostat, you won't be getting all the protein you think you are. Try some other options. You can get samples of lots of different protein shakes at Vitalady.com - Protein Supplements, Vitamins & Minerals, and Safe Snacks!. A lot of people like Nectar Syntrax and a lot of people like Chike, so you might want to try those. You can also find a lot of good recipes for protein shakes on theworldaccordingtoeggface.
As far as the liver shrinking diet, I was only allowed liquids on mine, so I don't know if your doctor would allow sauerkraut or not. Hope someone calls you back soon.
Kelly

St. Mary's
Yep - I guess that was where we both heard it! Sorry to repeat it for you!
Kind of curious about what Kelly said. Let me know what you find out.

UHG. That's not what I wanted to hear. I'll look into some other options
As for the diet, we are supposed to do 2 shakes a day and then one meal of 4 ounces of lean meat and non startchy veggies.

OY.. it annoys me to no end that a "Center Of Excellence" nutritionist is telling people undergoing bypass to use the collegen protein.
(And why I think the CoE certification is a total freakin' CROCK OF you know what!!! Just another way someone is making money off of us, IMO)
Here is an interesting read.
Is all protein created equal?

I'm sorry - I thought you were another woman I was speaking with (the couple in front of you.) We have Sept. Surgeries and were talking about motivating each other to walk while we recovered! OOPS!
I deleted my previous message - since apparently it might be bad advice - I didn't want someone reading it to only read what I wrote - and assume it's okay - without reading all the other comments about it NOT being okay.
You all really have me curious now about the proteins.....

Thanks for posting that, Kel. I was looking for that thread and couldn't find it.
You know, my surgeon was at a Center of Excellence, and the PA there told me to take Caltrate, which is calcium carbonate. She also told me to take 1000 IU's of vitamin D per day because my vitamin D was low on my blood work, which I have since been told was a ridiculously low amount to take. I took it, and then when I had my blood retested, what do you know, my vitamin D was still low. It bugs me to no end when doctors and dieticians and so forth give bad advice, but it really goes to show how we really do need to be our own advocates and educate ourselves.
