Default Biotin and hairloss from lapband surgery

Does anybody know if taking 5mg of Biotin really helps with hairloss resulting from lapband surgery? Is it bad to take that much with a multi-vitamin? I've been doing perfect with my Protein/Good Carbs ratio everyday until this last week we went on vacation and it was hard for me to maintain that ratio. My hair has just been falling out like crazy since then! I can't believe that things can go downhill that fast! Any suggestions on what I should do? My hair is thin enough already! Thanks for your help!

My doctor told me that biotin would not help, but I can't speak from personal experience. I lost a LOT of hair after my surgery due to not getting enough protein. I think they best thing to do is to take your regular vitamins and make sure you get your protein in. Some hair loss is normal after after WLS, even if you do everything you're supposed to do. It usually grows back after a couple months.

My hair fell out like crazy after I was banded. Biotin didn't do a thing. It does eventually grow back however my hair is a little thinner now. I know you're panicking but you won't go bald. Keep up the protein - that's important. It'll be okay.

I had a gastric bypass not band and was experiencing hair loss. I take 1000 mcg of biotin daily. It has helped with my hair growing back in, but it is still thin. Not as thick and full as it was pre-op. And it has taken about 3 months for me to even notice any difference.

I had GBP... and took Biotin faithfully for more than a year. When I ran out recently, I thought I didn't need it anymore... Guess what? There's a furry tangle of hair in my shower drain. First time I've seen that since early days of post-op. I believe in Biotin! Back on it...

Default Thanks Toony!

Thanks for your reply! How much Biotin do you take a day? The people at my support group tonight were swearing by it also. I'm definately giving it a try!
