Default Threads with vitamins & minerals needed postop

We desperately need a sticky thread with every bit of information we know about vitamins and minerals postop!

I'm frustrated because I can't find all the great threads I KNOW I've seen before that have all that critical information. Unfortunately none of those threads have been made into stickies. Maybe because there are so many that touch on just one aspect of what we need?

So I'm creating THIS thread with the hope that everyone will post links to those vitamin/mineral supplement threads you know are here somewhere.

Once it gets going I'll ask John to make THIS thread into a sticky. It would really be a great help to all of us, this "oldie" included!

I'll start with some:

Are you sure you're getting all the calcium you think you are?

Flintstones vs. Bariatric Vitamins

Not taking your supplements is NOT okay

What kind of problems can develop from not taking vitamins daily?

Got my Chewy Bites today...

vitamin D deficiency?

Here's something that isn't a thread, but has valuable information for postop patients. Corrine and Beth have posted this link frequently as it's the single most comprehensive piece out there about the subject:

Thanks, I think all these are quite valuble. especially for those of us that are dealing with vitimins issues. To go to one place instead of searching all over for the right info. Thanks Phenoxfire.

Here is a thread with important information about WHAT we must have tested and WHEN we need to be tested. Corrine started this thread, and she and Beth are two of the most educated members on TT when it comes to this topic. Maybe one day I'll know as much as they do!

Track Your Bloodwork!

And here is an article that proves Flintstones are crappy vitamins for people who have bypass!

To give you an idea of the sheer volume of tests you should have, I've pasted a list from the thread mentioned above because hopefully if you see how MUCH needs to be tracked you will be concerned enough to stay on top of this stuff! I bet you'll be surprised.

Some of these are not strictly for bypass surgery patients. Everyone else should have some of these too!

I asked our wonderful MiladyB (Beth) to remind me of the essential postop tests. Though she's dealing with her own health crisis, she was sweet enough to give me a list. Here it is:

Here is the list of recommended labwork:

Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
Lipid Profile
CBC with Diff
B-12
Bili-Direct
Ferritin
Iron/TIBC
Magnesium
RBC Folate
Thiamine (B1)
Uric Acid
Vitamin D, 25-OH
Bone Density test (Start one year postop and do annually. This is for men AND women; all ages.)
Copper
Zinc
PTH

Here's another great thread about how CALCIUM CITRATE is the ONLY kind of calcium we should take postop. (Thank you again MiladyB-Beth)

Great idea, Kristine to try to bring all these threads together. I really get concerned that people aren't getting in their vitamins. I personally think taking our vitamins is one of the most crucial things we need to do for ourselves after surgery; vitamins and labwork.

I know I've posted a couple charts in regards to our vitamin requirements. It breaks it down to specific vitamins, amounts and form. Let me see if I can dig them up. I have them on my desktop but they are in a format I can't upload on here. If anyone is interested in receiving them let me know. I'll be happy to send them on to you. They are on here but the format is a little difficult to read.

Okay here are a couple more, Kristine

Vitamins-How much? What kind?

Suggeted vitamins to help with hair loss

I have the vitamin requirements in excel on my computer so if anyone would like the lists please email me. I would be happy to send them on. If anyone knows how to reformat them into something I can upload on to here let me know. I'm afraid I don't know how to change formats.
