Water vs COKE, Pepsi, etc.....
WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically
dehydrated.
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism
is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's
metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight
hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in
a University of Washington study.
5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime
fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10
glasses of water a day could significantly ease back
and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger
fuzz short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and
difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a
printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases
the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the
risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less
likely to develop bladder cancer.
And now for the properties of COKE, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, which ever carbonated drink you choose~
1. In many states (in the USA) the highway
patrol carries two gallons of coke in the truck to
remove blood from the highway! after a car accident.
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of
Coke and it will be gone in two days
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola
into the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit
for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in
Coke removes stains from vitreous China.
4. To remove rust spots from chrome car
bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery
terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to
bubble away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth
soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several
minutes.
7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of
Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is
finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix
with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can
of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent,
and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will
help loosen grease stains.
9. It will also clean road haze from your
windshield.
For Your Info:
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric
acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in
about 4 days.
! Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from
bones and is a major contributor to the rising
increase in osteoporosis.
2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate)
the commercial truck must use the Hazardous
material place cards reserved for Highly corrosive
materials.
3. The distributors of Coke have been using it
to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20
years!
Now the question is, would you like a coke, etc....or
a glass of water?
We have to protect our pouches GBP sisters and brothers, we worked TOO hard to get them to harm them by not drinking our full load of water...or choosing something that Dr. Callery and Dr. Potts told us not to drink...

Sandi thanks for the information, it's very enlightening. You know before I had WLS I used to drink a minimum of 4 diet cokes a day. I haven't had a soda or any carbination in 17 months and the overall feeling I have is I don't miss it a bit. I drink lots of water and crystal light daily, probably over 8 glasses and it's a great thing, pipes are clean and no aches and pains unless I overdo a bit in the gym!

I have always preferred water. So I had a head start on this business. I use to chug water. That's hard to do now. Just keep sipping away.

Water
I have a question. This may be silly, but I will never know the answer until I ask. Ok so here it's. If you drink flavored water (propel, crystal light...etc) is that considered drinking water? If not then I'm screwed. I just don't like regular water, so I drink the flavored ones. Someone please tell it counts!

yes it counts. It is flavored water. The diluent is water, thus it is water! Keep drinking. Fluid is fluid. Our bodies are about 70% water.
Thanks Sandi, I have known this for a long time, when I was a kid I did a science project, and I put the nail in the coke, and sure enough it worked. I also knew about the coke removing the blood from the highway. I had a sip of coke mixed in my tea last thursday night at the hospital because they had nothing else to sweeten the tea with, and I definitely felt the carbonation. I am with Bill there, it isn't worth the price we may or may not pay, I just remember that nail as a kid, and it stuck with me. Although I have had some carbonated drinks diluted well in the last year, such as the diet pepsi slurppee, and watered down mountain dew, I gave up soda Septiember 2003 and have not been sorry ever. I am thankful for this reminder, because I have even considered using coke to sweeten my tea means I am clearly not thinking straight.
I miss you Sandi, and you are progressing so awesome. I wish I could see you. I live in Lakeside, and haven't seen you in over a year, we need to change that!
I love you.

Great info! I drank a 12 pack of Diet Coke a day for at least 15 years. I'm damn lucky I had a stomach left after all that. No wonder I had constant heartburn and felt like crap all the time. I vowed after I was so sick from caffeine withdrawals after wls that I would stay off it for good and so far I have. Thanks a bunch for even more incentive to stay off the pop. Now, if I could just get off these diet Snapple teas!!! I'm hooked but I think (hope) it is a better choice than diet coke.

Wow Sandi.......that was the first time I ever read that! That is some scary stuff. I too plan on giving up pop after surgery. I may have a slushie made from it once it a great while, but that is much watered down. Now I know I want to give it up. I don't miss it when I diet anyhow. I'm used to using it to wash down all the junky junk I eat (too much and too fast). I doubt I'll miss it much. I found a drink I like recently called FUZE. It is touted as "slenderizing", but it was basically a diet non-carbonated fruity drink. SO-BE has some nice diet flavors too.

Wow thats really great info. I always knew that stuff was bad for you even if it's diet. Sad thing is, I used to be a diet pepsi fiend. I always drank water as well. The only thing I miss about drinking the soda is the huge burps I used to be able to let out. It was fun hehe.

Before I was diagnosed with CDI, I was (literally) drinking 5 gallons + of water a day. I actually marked it down every time I refilled my gallon jug. I love water, ice cold. Can't stand the stuff if it's not. If it has flavoring in it, then it better also have carbonation, because all it will make me want is more plain water! LOL
On a side note, Mythbusters actually debunked alot of the common things people say about Coke and Pepsi. It did clean blood of the road and off the bumper of a car. I don't remember what other tests they did with it, but one of the was the steak test and it failed.
Another side note...my 3rd grade teacher had a child that lost a tooth. The child brought the tooth in to school one day and as an experiement, we placed the tooth in a small, clear cup of pepsi. 24 hours later, the tooth had dissolved. Ever wonder why your teeth feel funny after drinking a non-diet soda? The stuff eats through tooth enamel, which is said to be the strongest substance in the human body.
