Default Grrrrrrr....

I'm way bummed. After my initial consult I was told to stop drinking diet soda or carbonated drinks... DONE.

So, I found FUZE (love the Slenderize), Crystal Light, Special K protein water and I just started drinking more water even though I already drank a bunch.

WELL, I met the nutritionist yesterday, and I was so proud of myself for kicking the caffeine/carbonation habit, I told her about it and she said NO, NO, NO. She says ONLY water. Isn't that kinda extreme? I bummed. I also have a cabinet full of powder packets.... It was hard enough pouring out those last two diet pepsis.

So I dunno, do y'all think this is too extreme. Should I just stick with the program since thats what my bariatric team wants?

I'm really wantin some rasberry lemonade crystal light right about now.....

What was her reasoning behind this dictate? I guess I would feel that I'd need a good reason... the no carbonation/caffeine rule does seem to me to be based on something that made sense.. but water only? Not so much.

Default Thanks Kel...

I appreciate you responding to my hidden question...

Her reasoning was similar to the arguments I've heard recently about Diet Soda instigating hunger and over-eating.

Basically, the fake calories and "sweetness" of these drinks (crystal light, etc.) makes your body start to produce insulin because it thinks its about to get some sweet calories it needs to process. When no calories show up, the person starts to experience hunger and eventually overeats, and the root cause was the sweet calorie free drink.

That was her reason.... I even asked about milk and she said no. It didn't have a place in our diet - b/c not supposed to drink liquids with a meal so milk can't be eaten at meal time and on non-meal times we are not supposed to be getting calories but are supposed to be getting our liquids in in the form of water...

Does any of this make sense??? I must admit I had a FUZE today and a crystal light. But I also drank OVER 64 ounces of water. I'm pre-op, but I think I'm doin pretty darn well...

Deb, I'm so glad you posted about Fuze. I'd never tried it before, because I didn't know it came in a diet version. Plus, I mistakenly thought it was carbonated. I bought a case of assorted flavors at Sam's Club today. I just drank a Cranberry Raspberry, and OMG, it's so good!

I've been having a terrible time getting in enough fluids. This went down really easy, so hopefully it will solve that problem.
