Default Protein shake absorbtion?

ok i've heard several different "opionons" regarding the protein absorbtion that we supposedly cant absorb more than 30g / serving. Ok i make my shake with 2 scoops which is 46g in one sitting. Do you mean to tell me that the extra 16 grams of protein cant absorb and therefore i'm "wasting them" should i drink 3 shakes a day (23g per serving) or is it ok to do the 46g and then another shake with 23 g? Someone help thank you

I am not sure on that one. When I went in to see my nutritionist and asked about the protein vials she said that it wouldn't all be absorbed at once and I should break the vial down into 2 servings if I was going to use them.

It would be interesting to find out the truth. But who to believe?????

I have heard from three different people, all nutritionists in the field of bariactrics, that 1) yes you absorb it all...... 2) No you only absorb 25-30 grams at a time..... 3) you only absorb about 50-60% of whatever you eat.

So, go figure. I err on the side of caution and make my shakes with no more than 20 grams of protein. That's just me. I love the shakes anyway, so another excuse to have another one!

I was told early out that we can only absorb around 30g of protein at one time. Vitalady.com has that on her website: Vitalady.com - Protein Comparison - Protein Supplements, Vitamins & Minerals, and Safe Snacks!

Quote:
Most people can absorb only about 30 grams at one time. Gastric bypass patients may absorb even less. The recommended "dose" is approximately 30 grams. Taking double doses won't hurt, it just costs more. We do not get the benefit of the larger dose. No one (except professional athletes) can absorb more than approximately 30 grams at one time.
But I've also read elsewhere that this isn't true.

Either way, with the cost of decent protein as high as it, it just made sense for me to limit mine to the one scoop and have it twice a day.

how do you get so much protien in there? What exactly are you using? I can't find anything more than 20g per 8oz which is 2 servings for me.

I use either Champion Pure Whey Stack - 1 scoop in 6-8oz water gives 23g protein. Or, Nature's Best Isopure - 1 scoop in water - 25g protein.

Check out vitalady.com - she has a good selection of proteins and you can buy sample baggies first too.

Default Scoop and 1/2 here

My protein supplement is 20gms also. I usually just mix a scoop and 1/2 to get around 30gms.

I usually make two servings and simply have one glass at a time. I use Nature's Best Zero Carb Isopure and add a couple teaspoons of DaVinci Sugar Free syrup for flavor. I blend mine with ice and water. AllStarHealth has great prices on Champion, Nature's Best, and a few other better named products. They ship same or next day and reordering is automated if you'd like.
