healthy eating.. whats that?
I am so tired of hearing, " Eat like a thin person." What the heck is that? Or the whole protein debate, how much we should be eating and proteins first, veggies second.
I am frustrated that I dont know how many grams of saturated fats you should have in your diet, and how much is too much. Is cheese really THAT bad for you? We keep hearing white cheeses is better than yellow cheese, and now Im hearing ITS ALL JUST FAT-yeah there is some protein value but we chould be getting it from lean meats, I feel so misinformed.
I have been hearing to eat like this, this is how "normal thin" people eat... whatever that heck that means..... I see alot of normally thin looking people at Subway and McDonalds too.... anywho.
Eat a lean mea, Salmon, Tuna, Chicken, Red Meat with a comple carbohydrate and vegetables. Thats it. If your going to eat bread, whole weat, period. Eggs, nly the egg whites, egg yolks have too much fat.
Nobody is talking to us about OUR FAT INTAKE. FAT IS BAD! and fruit is not so good...... I really resent not have nutritional guidance after the surgery and being left to figure it out on my own, where I consistenetly keep making bad food choices, even with the foods that I "think" and have been "taught" are good..... ugh! I know I should see my own nutritionist, by its not covered by my insurance and I dont have an extra $150 to see someone, everytime I saw her it would be $150 flipping dollars. Dont we have any RDA's here on the board? Anyone know a dietician, other than the one I know... I would like input from someone else.......
Anyone please share any knowlwedge you have about "proper nutrition".

Whew!
The only thing I know about proper nutrition is that freakin pyramid they taught us in school. That pyramid bulked me up to the specimen of health I am today.
I'd like to know what I should be eating also.

Bridget
Star and I started back at the gym last night. We are now memebers of 24hr fitness. They are going to help us more with the diet thing so I'll share what I've learned and will learn here with everyone.
Last night we were told that eating 1200 or less calories a day is basicly starving our bodies. I was told that we should be eating 5 small meals a day and there is no reason we have to do the all protein thing.
I'm going to find out more next week and I'll keep you up on what I find out.

Hijack
Tonya,
You're now a 24 hour fitness member?? Oh girl.. it's on.. I go to 24 hr. too.. I found me a new work out partner!!! It's on girlfriend.. no backing down..
Bridget,
All cheese is ok for you in moderation.. ( I don't know the word moderation when it comes to cheese though)
Oh and the whole white cheese is better than yellow cheese garb they've been feeding you is all bull.. want to know the truth?? Do ya?? Really?? Ok here goes.. and anyone can dispute me if you want.. I've got the facts right on this one..
ALL CHEESE IS WHITE .. the yellow cheese has coloring in it.. that is how it gets yellow.. so that is a false statement that has been used for far too long. Just so you know there are some cheeses that are lower in fat.. but not because they are white.
Just a little fyi for you..
Love you guys..
Kina

Kina
I totally forgot you were with 24hr fitness. Star and I are doing this together this time so having to meet you there I'll drag him along. While we do our thing he can go lift them strong manly weights upstairs...LOL I'm glad you told me that because if I have someone to meet there then I'm for sure going to go. I just stopped going in like Dec or Jan. I stopped my trainer in Feb so for the last couple of months I haven't been doing much at all. I mean I still walk and things but no good cardio. You can kick my butt back in there.
Bridget we are going to meet with a trainer next week and I'll keep you up to date on that. I'm with Kina on the cheese if I could live on turkey and cheese I would. It's the only easy thing that seems to taste good to me any more. You know what I really got to thinking about what you said and watching people around my office today. I saw a girl who is like a bean poll eat an entire huge burger and fries then go get some candy. I know I've watched her get at least 4 pieces today in the last hour or so. What the heck if I eat like that skinny girl I'll be the MO person again.
Thanks for opening my eyes a little more.

Cheese
Bridget,
I refuse to give up cheese. Ok so it isn't the best source of protein for me.. so what.. I love it. I have given up a lot with this surgery.. a lot of things I really used to love.. such as donuts, cookies, bread in abundance.. I do still have bread from time to time but it is very limited compared to my old self.. so I absolutely refuse to give up the cheese. I don't eat THAT MUCH of it anyway .. not compared to before surgery so I won't give it up.. lol
Did I make myself clear enough?? Man am I justifying my need for cheese or what?? hehehe

Let's confuse you more....
It depends on what kind of fat too! Fats from sources like olive oil and nuts are good for you. Fats from animals are suppose to be bad. However, eating fat doesn't make you fat. A calorie is still a calorie, no matter where it comes from. Excess calorie from any source, carbohydrates, fat, or protein will cause weight gain. The real question is, how much of any particular foods do I need for just me? Exercise, age, sex, genetics, hormones, stress, geograpics, just plain life effects each of us differently.
Some thin people can eat anything and not appear to have problems in weight or health. Most people can't. It's just a matter of time before it can catch up to you. Look at those who are 100 years old. What did they eat? All those "bad" foods. Yet, they're still alive.
I've seen dozens of healthy, athletic people die from strokes, heart attacks, cancer, what have you. Their exercise and diets look good on paper. All we can do is our best to achieve a balanced lifestyle. A little of everything in moderation. Go for variety and poo-poo the extremists. Remember when eggs and butter were completley out? Now, supposedly, they're okay to eat. Take it all in with a grain of salt.

Three cheers for Marie
You said it girlfriend.. you are so smart!! I wish I had your way with words.. espeically the poo-poo on them part.. Just kidding.. but you're right!! Some skinny people can eat anything they want and they aren't truly healthy because of all the excess saturated fats and whatnot they may put into their bodies. Are they lucky? Well, maybe in our eyes they are .. they can eat anything they want. But is that healthy anyway? I doubt it.

i hear ya
i hear ya loud and clear, everything in moderation....... ugh it looks as though I will never be satisfied with this debate. Thats what i say, anything but in moderation... but then i dont want to eat the "bad" when theres better, I guess I want to know what the best fuel is for MY body.... sigh, and thats gonna cost me an arm and a leg! lol
