Default If you have normal Calcium levels is all ok?

You know I always assumed that if my Calcium Levels were normal that all was ok in the world of Calcium. I suspect many of you have thought as I do. We had a physician who deals with nutritional deficencies come and speak at my support group the other night and I found out some interesting facts about calcium levels.

I asked him, "If my calcium levels are normal does that mean that I am NOT depleteing calcium from my bones?" He told me "No" He went on to explain that when we are not getting enough calcium in our bodies the place our bodies goes for it is our bones. It takes calcium from our bones in order to bring our blood levels to normal. So we could still be depleting our bones of calcium even though our labs are normal. I found this article that confirms what he had to say.

Calcium (Ca) in Blood

Because of this he HIGHLY recommends that we get yearly bone density tests, especially the females but also the males, though their risk isn't as high.

I don't know about all of you but I plan on heeding what he had to say. I will be taking the recommended Calcium Citrate along with getting bone density tests. I just don't want to take any chances.

I had heard about that too! Probably some in this forum, not sure. But it makes perfect sense...our bodies are miraculous! Just like with pregnancy...the baby will get what it needs from us...whether through the foods we eat OR taking it from our bodies itself.

Well I have a normal amount, and when I took more I got kidney stones. So no extra for me anymore.
