Grocery Store Discoveries...
I thought I'd share some stuff I found in the last couple of visits to the grocery store:
At ALDI (don't know if you have one near you...) they have these sugar free fruit flavored drinks (non-sparkling) in Pomegranate and Cranberry flavors that are REALLY REALLY good!
Gerber Graduates makes these little snack cereal pieces for toddlers that we've been buying for the baby and I've been stealing. Not only are they pouch friendly (they disintegrate when you swallow) they come in a variety of flavors, my favorite of which are Sweet Potato and Cherry. The cherry tastes like a fried pie from when I was little. A serving has next to nothing nutritionally speaking in it, and only 25 little calories. I've been keeping a container at work when I want something satisfying to crunch on.
The SOuth Beach Diet High Protein Cereal Bars have 10g of protein, 140 calories, and are WAY WAY cheaper than the other protein bars. Plus, they taste good. The peanut butter ones are delicious!
Fat Free Half and Half in my tea and coffee make it taste like it did when I used Full Fat milk or cream before the surgery.
Thomas' is making a Fiber Filled Lowfat/Lowcal wheat English Muffin that has been working REALLY well with my pouch. Add a little peanut butter, and I'm good to go. (Thought I can't eat but about 3/4 of it.)
I'm trying to watch the carbs in stuff very closely, but Michelina's makes "Lean" frozen meals, the best of which are the spaghetti and the macaroni and cheese. Both are delicious. I also like the Salisbury steak, even if the mashed potatoes aren't that great.
I've been eating "Old York" cheese spread and reduced fat Triscuits every day for lunch for the last 2 months. That cheese spread is SOOO good. Kraft makes a good one too.
Crab Legs at the grocery store are cheaper than Red Lobster, but just as meaty. You can boil or steam them in 8 minutes or throw them on the grill for 5. They are delicious, and I can eat a pound of crab legs. (3-4 ounces of actual meat...and it's not too dense so the pouch likes it!)
Red Rose decaf tea...Yum, Yum, Yum.
Special K Protein Water in the Tea flavor--it's good and it gives you 5 grams of protein.
Hershey's sugar free chocolate syrup. Really makes the protein shake taste like a milkshake should. (And it's lowcal and no carbs)
Just sharing some ideas for what I've been eating...
-Mike

I saw your post about the sweet potato puffs the other day so I bought some for my granddaughter. You're right! They are great! Next time I'm buying one for her and one for me .
Thanks for the tips. I tried a teaspoon of peanut butter a month or so ago and totally dumped on it. I was so disappointed. Are you using a low sugar variety of peanut butter or a natural peanut butter or do you just not dump easily?

Robin,
I've not had a problem with Peanut Butter. Lately, I've been eating just regular old Jif, but I also like the Reduced Fat Skippy as well. I haven't dumped on it, but I haven't dumped on anything else either. I'm not a pouch tester--I'm not eating any sugar or high fats, besides the PB, but so far, so good.
You gotta try the Cherry Gerber Graduates...I could eat the whole container if the pouch would let me...the Banana ones are good too...
You could also try some of the other "Nut" butters like Cashew or Almond. They are good and while they may be a little fatty like Peanut Butter, you're still getting a pretty healthy snack.

Thanks for the suggestions, Mike! I've actually done the Gerber Graduates myself, several times. They are a great snack to help with that need for crunch and that need for something sweet. The first time I bought them my family gave me SUCH a hard time! *L* They still tease me but I don't care, they are GOOD!!!

The kids at school make fun of me too...until they tasted them. Now, they're trying to talk me into giving them to them. Not gonna happen!

Robin,
I still dump on pb. Go figure. I ordered some powdered pb online and it is awesome. 54 cals vs 190 and 2.8g fat vs 16 in the regular stuff. I mix it with water and a little splenda for spreadable pb and just put the powder in my shakes. Awesome. Called PB2 from bellplantation.com
