Default First day post op

clear liquids and not too much of them. I am a water drinker and am worried about getting thirsty. Did anyone have iv's in after surgery and what was your first day like?

I did have an iv..and had sf popsicles and some ice. I don't recall being really thirsty, but I was on pain meds too. I also had severe nausea/vomiting from the anesthesia, so they were giving me meds for that as well. I'm sure they hydrated me through the iv. I went home 1 day after surgery, and felt great. I do remember not liking the taste of anything..water, crystal lite, broth, etc. it was all gross! I still hate sugar free Jello and creamed soups to this day! I do remember it took me HOURS to finish a glass of protein shake or water! It's weird to look back on it now. I did and still do love those sugar free fudgesicles! Take care and have a happy recovery!

I am on my 3rd day post op. I went home the day after my surgery. I was also concerned that I would be thirsty but I was not. I had an IV until the released me from the hospital. Just take little sips and you will do fine. I was not real hungry or thristy and today is my 3rd day and each day I am getting stronger. Walking is key it has helped me with the gas/bloating I had. That was very painful and hard to get comfortable.

You will do great and I wish you the best! Paula

I had an IV. I didn't get thirsty but I had horrible motion sickness everytime I moved, it was awful.

I have a friend who made her own popsicles. She used diluted fruit juices.

She added some liquid protein to her popsicle liquid which she felt helped her in the first couple of days.
