Question Former Weight Watchers Junkie...

i've been a ww member on and off since i was about 8 years old and i have that 'diet' mentality that my nutritionist cringes about...but how am i just supposed to stop feeling that way overnight? i was reading another thread regarding sugar and couldn't help but think about 'points' when they were talking about different types of food! i guess i would say that the 'diet' mentality has to be in place no matter what, right? a person always has to be conscious of sugars now instead of 'points'...so why does she shrivel up when i talk about ww? just curious...
thanks!

I did WW too. Lost 60 lbs but gained it all back. Points is a good way to count calories so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just post op you will be more conscious of protien, fat and sugar.

A diet is something you start and stop. What follows that? GAIN! Having WLS is a complete makeover! There is no stopping point with this. I have such freedom from food now. I no longer have become obsessed with food, points, calories, fat grams, carb grams, fiber, and all that crap. It's quite simple. Every meal starts with protein, add a few veggies, and fruit. For an afternoon snack there's a protein drink or bar. Or for a special treat I'll have some cheese and wheat thins. In the evening when my family is eating some icecream, I get out my sugar free fudgesicles, hot cocoa, or sugar free yoghurt. I don't feel deprived like when I was "dieting". I guess that's why your nutritionist feels that way. Believe me...Your mind will catch up with all this after surgery. I panicked before surgery and had "my last supper" and pigged out on chocolate. Looking back, I didn't really need to do that. It's a good feeling to have made peace with my food.

I did WW for years and many other things. I will tell you honestly...I was a sugaraholic before surgery. I loved my cappuccino and pop. I wasn't a chocolate fan per say, but now reading sugar content in things, I can see where I added in a lot of sugar. I hadn't found starbucks pre-op, so I know if I had, my grams of sugar per day would have been 200+ or more. I am sure some days I had over 200grams. Now I have maybe 20 in a whole day and thats on a bad day. One 250ml juice box is about 25grams to give you a comparison.

Liquid calories in general are bad. Thats not counting our powdered milk cocoa or protein drinks - I am talking cappuccion, pop, fruit juice.

I did this surgery for a healthier life and I knew it would be hard. I wrote about my challenges under my story under personals stories, but what I didn't expect is that I could not stand sweet things out of surgery. I couldn't even do crystal light. My taste buds changed in many ways.

Now at my stage, I can tolerate some sugars, don't mind a little bit, but don't miss it. I still drink my Starbucks 1/2 sweet, no extra sweetners. Its very hard to explain but I really don't want the sugar. (I want other things, but sugar is not one of them!). I don't even want pop - diet or any other kind. I can tolerate a small amount of carboation, but I don't care for it anymore. I do miss being able to have a "drink" with someone ie: and my drink was Rum and Coke....can't do that anymore.

Can't say YOU will be the same as many of us are quite different, but a great deal don't want sugar stuff post-op. Its the luck of the draw.

Lisa~

That is so true about the SUGAR. Everything tastes so sweet to me now I can barely stand it. I wasn't big on sweets before except soda, now I could care less. And to me splenda is the worst!
