They do have some sugar, but it's usually low, 4 or 5 grams. I eat them for breakfast, along with some string cheese or cottage cheese. I'm finding them in the breakfast cereals aisle, rather than the health food areas, of the stores that carry them.
Lisa,

Wanted to ask you a question.....

Do you ever get sick still? Have issues now that you are so far out? Or do you feel "normal"... Did you have any problems or complication the first couple of years? just wondering...

I still have some issues - just went through gallbladder surgery three months ago. Since then, I've struggled with my body signals--for about six weeks, I couldn't tell until far too late that my pouch was full or overfull, and would overeat to the point of extreme pain. Finally got that mostly sorted out, but not because the signals have come back, I'm just getting better at measuring my food out again, something I had been able to relax about for almost a year.

I do get ill about once a month or so, and usually find out that it's the sugar content in something that I wasn't careful about that's making me sick. Sometimes, bluntly, I risk feeling ill--I made a birthday cake for the friend I'm staying with, and I ate a small slice of it at her party. I paid the price--sugar overdose for me now causes a lot of pouch pain, as well as the sweats and the nausea.

But no, I'm not ill or in pain on a daily basis. Most of the time I feel very normal. I had no complications from GBS, just the stomach 'flu at two weeks post-op, landed in the hospital for three days to stay hydrated. But I was lucky, no strictures, no leaks, the only true complication was the recent gallstone that blocked the duct, a recognized complication of rapid weight loss, not just of GBS.

Default Isopure

Has eanyone ever tried Isopure protein supplement? I am pre-op, but was told about this....its a clear liquid they sell at GNC. I was told its was a good one by my doctor's office...but have't tried it...and know after suregery tastes will be different anyway.
Just curious if this has worked (or NOT worked)for anyone? (I don't like powders much...so thought it might be a good option).

I've tried the Isopure drinks. I think they all taste 'funny' but doable to get the protein in. I have to have them icy cold, that seems to help with my taste issue. My friend, however, senses no aftertaste and can enjoy them. I never tried them pre-op, so don't know about any changing tastes on that one. Many other tastes have changed though. I think it's pretty much trial and error. I've wasted some money on stuff I cannot tolerate. I just chalk that up to the whole 'process'. Good Luck with your journey. Ask as many questions as you have inside your mind, it's all good to know. I am always gleaning new info from this place, isn't it just awesome??

I pretty much owe my life to Isopure. I had some very difficult health issues post op and was in a weight free fall. I was severely malnourished, and a bunch of other stuff caused my fam and surgeon to pretty much think I wasn't going to make it a couple of times. I started drinking the Isopure because it was the only way I could get any measurable protein in and my body would tolerate it. I am now recovered, my weight is stabilizing, and even though I can eat most of my nutritional needs, I still drink probably 5 Isopures per week. I can tell when I need the protein--they taste like Nectar of the Gods. If I'm pretty good protein-wise, they taste kind of ....ehhh. Mostly they taste good to me. The folks at my GNC know me now, and they just give me 15% off for buying a case at a time. And they let me mix the flavors. The only one I won't drink is the green one (apple/melon?). The rest of them are just fine. I think I would have been given more TPN and possibly had the surgery reversed if I had survived my complications...so I'm glad for Isopure.

Thank you for those Isopure comments...I am going to try those first and see if I can tolerate them...I hate powders...so I am hoping it will be agood choice.
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer.

I've tried Isopure, and it's gross to me. It has a nasty after taste for me. I'm glad that you have found something that works for you. Janie

I tried the isopure powders.. vanilla (yuck), strawberry (DOUBLE yuck). and double dutch chocolate.. I liked that one... and Im cheap.. powder is cheaper, and trust me.. this protein stuff gets pricey!
