Hey Julez,
Alcohol, I can drink wine. I've not tried anything else. I do know some post ops that drink margaritas and hard alcohol. Just watch the mixers. I think it may be trial and error. Just be careful, you get drunk really fast on just a little alcohol.
Red meat, three months post op according to Dr. Callery's schedule.

I can do wine and long island ice teas but have chickened out on other alcohol. As far as red meat, I was ok'd for it at my 6 weeks check up. Very small (eraser size) bites that I chew to death. I have not had any problem with red meat but with chicken it is hit and miss. Hope this helps.

Alcohol, shmalcohol... meat
I gave up alcohol 15+ years ago (it was anothe addiction...) so I can't speak to that for postops.
As for red meat, I've been starting on it at 6 weeks out, and have had no problem with it at all. Ditto for chicken. Lots of people report not tolerating chicken and/or red meat for a long time, I guess I'm lucky. Especially since I hate fish!

I found the low carb black cherry Bacardi silver a bit tasty. Gotta watch the bubbles on malt liquors and beer.
I have a sip of wine every once in a while. A sip of a margeurita. Hmmm, that apple martini I had in vegas was good. I only have half a serving at the most as most ETOH drinks has sugar and it really goes to the head! Wouldn't want to dump and be drunk at the same time!

Alcohol
Ok, I will again be the fuddy duddy! Alcohol should be a very rare thing if at all. Especially during the weight loss phase. Even low carb drinks are high in calories. We have been taught to stay away from high calorie drinks. The calories add up way too fast. As we drink, our inhabitions decrease and we drink or eat more than we normally would.
Second, and most importantly. In a normal digestive system about 50% of the alcohol is digested in your stomach before it is absorbed into the bloodstream in your small intestine. In WLS patients ALL of the alcohol is immediatly absorbed into the bloodstream. This means you get drunk much faster and on less alcohol. This can put you in a dangerous situtuation ie. DUI, Passing out, loosing control, etc.
Third, dependence. There is a significant problem with WLS patients trading one addiction (food) for another (in this case alcohol). It is something we need to be very careful of.
Ok, lecture over.....
Love ya.

Alcohol
I havent dumped on anything yet regarding alcoholic beverages. I do drink Martini's mostly, lemon Drops, Apple and Watermelon are my fav's. I stay away from the malt liquor cooler drink varities and beer, although I did have a sip of Guinness approx 4 weeks ago, I miss Guinness but willing to give it up.
But yeah, watch it when you drink, you get a buzz So fast, its a trip!

No alcohol for me, I am sitting here watching Mary <grin>. Chicken is hit or miss with me. One day I tolerate it, the next I don't. Too strange. Red meat? Well, I started with chili with meat and that went well, so I went on to Mexican casserole. Handled that, handled spaghetti, and roast beef. I do better on red meat than chicken. Probably started too soon, I am 6 weeks today.
