Default Back on a Liquid Diet

Hi all,

I am back on a liquid diet and losing weight I don't have to lose..... HELP!!

No it's not do to complications from my wls. I'm on a liquid diet for the next 14 days because of Dental work.

I've just had my first of four surgeries. My face is swollen beyond recognition.

As a fat lady I neglected my teeth and was ashamed to go to a Dentist. I was always concerned that they would laugh (even if it was behind my back) at how someone could have gotten so fat with some many rotted teeth.

A word to those of you still waiting for your surgery. Don't let your weight stand in the way. Take care of your teeth now.

Anyway, back to my current problem. I need to focus on taking in more liquid calories. Any suggestions?? I can't have anything with bits of food. It must be clear liquids.

I'm doing protein drinks, protein puddings and soups.

Is it clear liquids or "full" liquids? There is a major difference. If you are eating pudding and soups, it is probably full liquids. You can have smooth flavored yogurt if it's full liquid and you can even make smoothies out of them, which is REALLY good. I use yogurt, milk, vanilla protein powder, and a few ice chips in the blender. Tastes like a "real" milkshake! Yummmmmmm

I just wanted to say I feel for you......I am planning to hit the dental stuff after my PS healings. Mine were similar issues to yours, with some phobia from bad childhood dental experiences thrown in for good measure. I hope all goes well for you. I will be coming to you down the road for advice I'm sure. Take care and try to drink lots of calories. Add PB to make a smoothie. I use PB, frozen banana, sweetener and no sugar added choc milk. It is healthy, delicious, and packs some decent protein and calories! Good luck and keep us updated.

I receive your warning, and...forgive me for I have sinned. It has been 10 years or so since I have been to the dentist I know I know!!! I administer the benefits at work, have the insurance...whats stopping me?! Fear of the unknown, thats what. How silly is that?! Soneone hold me accountable for going to the dentist!!

I too had a dentist phobia and did not go for years and years even though I had insurance. My teeth were so bad that I wound up having a bunch pulled and now have partials on the top and bottom. I would never smile and if I laughed I would put my hand up to my mouth. It was a real liberation to be able to smile and laugh again without being so ashamed or embarrassed.

The good thing is that when you get back to a regular diet, the weight should stabilize back to where you usually are. In the meantime, I don't know what to suggest unless you can tolerate a bit more in calories...such as Starbucks frap lights. I can drink them and they have added calories. dunno. I hope that someone might have a good suggestion.

Sorry to hear about the dental work..I had gum graphting and I can totally relate to not being able to eat anything.

Take care

Good morning Ladies and thanks for the suggetions.

To quote my Dentist's instructions. "Liquid. It's imperative that no small particles of food end up in the suture lines and cause an infection."

My bottom lip is sutured to my bottom teeth to hold it until the muscles reattach to the jaw bone and a suture line in the upper jaw as well.

I've been eating high protein pudding (GNC), protein drinks and tomatoe soup. Yesterday I had a jr size Wendy's chocolate frosty.

I will get my hubby to snap a pic of this swelling and share it later.

Default I'm almost in the same boat

I too have neglected my teeth for various reasons. I wish I had advice on the protein, but I haven't even had my surgery yet. I am thankful for this post because I sometimes feel like I am the ONLY one with phobias about stuff. I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled and a root canal done, but don't know whether to get it done now or before my surgery. Any thoughts? Thanks again and I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I'm not sure how to advise, because I still have not dealt with the various issues. I have told myself that when the plastics are healed and I have most of it paid back, then I MUST go get all the dental work done. I think I am part way over the fear, now to get through the embarrassment part. But with the weight off and plastic surgery done.....I think I will mentally ready to face it all......no, I KNOW I will.
