I personally go to the gym in the morning for a little wake up (tread mill or bike for 30 minutes). Then after work I go for my major sweat a river gasp for breath work out.

Hubby says I need to do the big thing in the morning as I will burn the cals better all day. My only problem is that I am soooooo wicked tired after my work out I could not stay awake at work. Of course he points out that that is another "weird" point for me.

I am perfectly happy with my loss and yes, it may be less than some (average 3lbs a week) its better than I have ever seen before.

Does it really matter when I work out? Or is it just that I work out?

I don't know if any of you have this problem and know of any exercises that might help. Someone posted exercises for low back pain. Would this work, you think? And can I lay on my stomach 4 weeks post-op?

Thanks!

Hi guys,

I am considering getting a recumbent bike, but have been having trouble finding one that would support a 350lb person (and not cost $1000). Anyone find a bike they like that can support a heavyweight?

Hi Everyone,

I'm constantly in the gym with intense work outs or playing tennis and still haven't been taking the weight off. I just came across this article in the NY Times that has definitely shed some light on what I may be doing wrong. What struck me in particular is the section I've included below. If you'd like to see the entire article, I've also included the link.

Hope this helps!

“If you work out at an easy intensity, you will burn a higher percentage of fat calories” than if you work out a higher intensity, Carey says, so you should draw down some of the padding you’ve accumulated on the hips or elsewhere — if you don’t replace all of the calories afterward. To help those hoping to reduce their body fat, he published formulas in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research last month that detailed the heart rates at which a person could maximize fat burning. “Heart rates of between 105 and 134” beats per minute, Carey said, represent the fat-burning zone. “It’s probably best to work out near the top of that zone,” he says, “so that you burn more calories over all” than at the extremely leisurely lower end.

I went to see my PCM for the first time since surgery. I've been having a burning like sensation on my right calf and can feel it starting up on my left. I was really trying not to think of DVT's but....

Anyway, she did an ultra sound and didn't find any clots thankfully BUT, told me that I have over exerted the veins in my legs because I went from a 220lb statue to always moving. She said I did to much to fast and the veins will not recover. So, now I have these really nasty looking bulging veins on the back of my calf. She said there is nothing to do now because the only time they hurt is when they are touched but, if I notice swelling, heat, color change or what ever surgery will have to be done. :(

So, please please please, be careful with your work outs. Even though I don't feel bad (just the pain of using muscles that have not been used in ages) don't push yourself until you feel the burn. You could really hurt yourself.

So I'm getting married in February (at my one year post-op) and my weight loss has started to slow (I'm 7 months out). I go to the gym but could probably go more, but am thinking about signing up for a 12 week bootcamp. It's pretty intense with three 90-minute sessions per week along with cardio regimen for the other days. The total cost is $900 so I'm debating if I should do it or not. On one hand, it would be nice to have the motivation, but on the other hand, it is 20-minutes from my house and at 5am and hella expensive. Thoughts? Has anyone done anything like this before? Worth it?

Well, I did it! Day before yesterday I joined our Althletic Club. $199 for three months. In three months I'll be moving to San Diego and I'll have access to a 24 hour Fitness. Thursday I lap swam for two full hours. Was sore Friday so I went slow for about 20 minutes and then hung out in the whirlpool for a half hour. Today I swam for an hour, and then I went and found the elliptical. I lasted 10 minutes with it set on resistance level 8. I just came home, dripping, with legs of jello. I'm very excited! I think the gym is my new favorite place to be! I never want to leave! And when I do leave, all I can think about is going back.

Tomorrow I'm packing a backpack with a towel, water, a protein drink, grapes, a PB&SFJ sandwitch along with my homework, and I'll be staying there for the whole day. I LOVE our gym! :D
