I live in the Antioch Kaiser Area. My Dr. sent my referal for WLS to the Fremont Kaiser Bariatric department. I have an apointment for the orientation in 20 days, so I called them to ask why I was sent to them and not Richmond and they said it is becasue I am in their referal area.

While there is plenty of info on the Richmond Kaiser surgery caenter, I can not find any on the Fremont Kaiser. This concerns me as I have read just a few post on another site where others have said that while they do offer Lap Band, the surgens tend to lean twards RYN and push their patients to do so. When I was talking to the receptionist at the Fremont center, she did say that they do less LB's and that it is mostly based on what the surgun recomends.

While I know that I should take what the surgen has to say into consideration, I feel that LB is the only way to go for me. I have been researching it for some time now, and I know what I need.

So what I need to know is there anyone on here that has succesfully been banded at the Fremont surgery center and what is your story? I am new here, but not new to weight loss! I am in the current process with Kaiser on WLS. I just attended the 2 hr. WLS Class that they require prior to the 4hr. Orientation.

Here are my stats:
5' 4"
240 Lbs.
40-41 BMI

I have a few questions. The first is for those of you who have gone through Kaiser. Do they require the pre-opt. weight loss to be 10% of your overall body weight or 10% of your projected total weight loss inorder for you to be at a healty BMI?

The reason that I ask is if I need to lose 24 lbs before surgury (which would be 10% of my overall body weight) I wil be under the 40 BMI that Kaiser requires for Lap Band surgery and I do not have any other health conditions that my obesity effects. Although i have cronic knee, back and hip pain, I am sure that it doesn't count!

Is there anyone on here that has started this journy with these simmilar "low" BMI issues? I know that I need this surgury as a tool for my overal success and I am concerned that I will be fighting an up hill battle on getting approved!

My mom had lapband two years ago and doesn't drink alcohol anymore because she says it hurts her esophagus. She will very very rarely have a small amount of white wine, but she says she can only tolerate sweet white wines like Riesling. Now I'm still ready to attend but sad because it doesn't look like I'm gonna be able to afford to get banded before the holidays. Dh & I are still going to the seminar since its required at some point @ both dr's I'm looking into. Its a little less fun now that I'm pretty sure it may be a while before its gonnaa happen for me. (I explained in my blog.)

Anyway- anyone have any good experiences with self pay situations on credit? Who did you use?
