back in May, I was recruited for another department within my company by the head of that department (my current boss, let's call him X). I was basically unqualified, but my department and X's department worked together on a number of issues, so X knew me pretty well and liked me enough to take me in with no skills and train me.

I like to think that I've done reasonably well, but with only 5 months under my belt, I'm still the least experienced guy in my department (and a lot of my knowledge is more along the lines of "I know what to do and how to do it, but not necessarily the why's and underlying mechanics behind the whole thing," unlike my coworkers who've been working in the field for years and years and have specialized training/certificates/education).

my boss likes me and I get in training with my coworkers as frequently as possible (though not as frequently as I'd like since I spend 2/4 days every week working by myself), so i figured everything was fine, but... this week a new guy comes into the department. he's got a special title and I guess he's like "co-director" of my department, but it seems pretty clear to me that he's here to take over and displace my boss (my brother-in-law is a manager of a different department in my company and I've heard from him that the guy who's both of their boss (the CEO) has been grumbling about X behind his back... also, my new department is doing "360 reviews" this year, where the rank and file do a performance review for their manager; in the 5+ years I've been with this company, I've never done this before nor have I heard of it being done before)

so I'm in my own little world freaking out. lol. I've got a lot of capital with X and I feel like I'm probably his 2nd favorite person in the department, but while the new boss seems nice enough, I really don't know him from Adam and he has no concept of how far I've come in the past few months, just where I am now. so if he *is* looking to clean house, I can't think of why he wouldn't start with me.
