Default Quick question

Okay so I had my surgery August 2nd 2006 and I lost a lot of weight. I have been working my tail off at a big asphalt company this past summer and my back is ruining me. It always hurts. I tough it out but I am tired of it always hurting after a long day of paving or sealcoating. Any exercises I can do to make it stop hurting? I should prolly go to the docs, but I dont like doctors.

Go to the doctor!
Don't go to your GP, get a referral for an orthopedic doctor. If you are in dire straights, he will refer you to a neurologist. (Surgery).
I have had several Orthos, Neurologists and Physical Terrorists.
I have had a life of back issues and back surgery.
EVERY back issue is different but it would be irresponsible to tell you drugs to take or exercises to do.
A doctor will tell you what you need and may send you to physical therapy.

My best advice is to not delay.

I agree with Phatlady. A 21 year old shouldn't be having back problems! Get it checked out right away.

Chuck,

My WLS program specifically said we -- people who have lost a lot of weight quickly -- need to work on flexibility and strengthening exercises that get our backs into the alignment thinner people should have. Being heavy totally messed that up for us, and our backs don't just snap-to.

If your program has a fitness arm, you may check with them on this specific problem and possible stretches and exercises. Otherwise, I would recommend physical therapy.

Good luck!

If it is severe I'd check with the doctor so that you won't injure your back more.

But having said that when you lose alot of weight your center of gravity shifts and causes back pain. I was told to do "core exercises" to strenghten your abs/back and it has helped me tremendously! But I did that after talking to my regular PCP...

I used to suffer from severe back pain before wls...As soon as I was able to ( 2 mos.) post op...I got into the gym and to be honest it was almost miraculous how as I lost weght and built muscle my issues with that pain were eliminated. Weght lifting and strengthening your back muscles will imo help with your pain...see a doctor first and get the green light to do so..
