I know all docs have different meal plans, but only one ounce of food three times a day at 7 weeks post-op is really weird. I've never seen that before. I think at that point I was eating about 2 to 4 ounces, depending on what I was eating. And I was eating four to six times day. Well, one of those meals was actually a protein shake, not food. But still... Usually docs want you to get more protein from food and not rely mostly on protein drinks for protein. I do encourage you to talk to your doctor about his plan, because it seems to me like it wouldn't work very well. And it is different than what most docs recommend. I know some do recommend only three meals and no snacks, but most recommend more than one ounce of food this far post-op.

I'm 50, and 5 ft 7 in. I've been losing between 4-6 lbs a week since week 2 (I lost 20 lbs the first two weeks). My doctor perscribes to the weight divided by 2.2 to come up with the amount of protein required. So at this point I'm supposed to do 107 grams a day. No way I can get that much in for the day. And no way will I be able to do it with food. I see him next week and I'll be asking lots more questions!

The current recommendations seen mostly on this forum is a "Minimum" of 64 oz of protein but more once you're exercising. Many of us do 100+ a day, with only food once we were further out.

Corrine, is one who does well getting 100+ gms of protein a day, eating mostly a vegetarian diet.

It's not too terribly difficult but not early out. With the amount of exercise you're doing, it does sound like you need the protein but this 1 oz meal thing seems very strange!

I agree with Kelly. 60g of protein is the MINIMUM that was reccommended to me for protein intake. I am a vegetarian also and get about 100g a day, with only 1 protein shake, the rest food. I can understand that may be hard for you this early out, so you are doing really well and it should get much easier for you once you can ditch another shake and add more real food in. I can imagine some of those shakes do make you feel bloated as they tend to get 'airy' when you shake em up!
As for the exercise, that seemed really early to start such a rigorous program! I can understand walking and a little moderate cardio, but I wasn't even cleared for anything other than walking till about 5 weeks out. Your body needs a lot of time to heal!!! You've got the rest of your life to get your exercise program going and waiting a few weeks should have been a priority, especially from your doc. Also, with all of that exercise and as few calories as you are taking in now, you are bound to be tired, and also may stall. You are probably burning as many calories as you're eating, and therefore, your body will hold on to every little thing, called 'starvation mode'. You'll read a lot about it on here. I would still try to exercise a little, but maybe just try to tone down intensity for a little while. And make sure you are taking at least 1 day off a week. You body does need a day of rest, and don't worry, your metabolism will stay up, even 24 hours after a workout! I hope this helped and I hope you find that happy balance!

In addition to needing extra iron, B-12 also helps. There are going to be times after surgery when you feel down and unmotivated, but you need to push through these times. Also, don't beat yourself up over a 2-3lb loss. Some people only lose 1-2lbs a week.
