How do I motivate myself to exercise??
I hate it! I never liked it prior to surgery. I am a member of a fitness center that is relatively new and has top of the line equipment. I've lost 44lbs so far. I know I NEED to exercise but just don't have the motivation to do so. What do you do to stay motivated?

Before I started working out walking up 3 flights of steps would tire me, now can I do 11 flights and keep on going. Track your progress. Its great going from 30 min not even completing a mile to now 5 miles in an hour. Again dont let lame excuses stop you from working out, figure out what you dont like and find what you do.
My husband is a walker. He lifts weights but that is it at the gym. He walks and I mean power walks. He walks like 12 - 14 miles in 3 hours. Out side in the heat. I think he is crazy, but he loves being out side. ME I am at the gym in the AC working out. Not him. So find what you like. Maybe its out walking, and maybe its Zumba class or yoga at the gym. try new things until you find something you like. Man yoga is no joke, its crazy
I never feel better than after a good work out. There are so many people that come up with every reason not to goto the gym and work out. I dont like the gym, I do other things, I cant afford it. Some of them aren't excuses, they are valid reasons, and some are just excuses.
I recently joined a new gym that I LOVE, did I say that I LOVE my new gym. Its like a spa. They have awesome equipment, the latest, two pools, 1 for classes and 1 for lap swimming. I meant state of the art gym. They have a steam room, sauna and hot tub in the lady locker room. I spend 2 - 3 hours there, and when I leave I feel wonderful.
First write down, why you don't goto the gym. Than look at the reason and find a gym that works. For me, I was always looking for a gym partner. Well since I started going to this new gym I have met new people and really enjoy working out. The only bummer is that its 50$ a month, so a little costly but I AM WORTH IT. Are you worth it? I bet you are.. WE ARE ALL WORTH BEING HEALTHY.
If you need to work out, Do it.... dont late lame excuses stop you. We all know in order to reach and stay at goal we have to work out. Find the reasons and work around them and work threw them

You just have to do it. After you do, you'll start to love it so much you can't wait til the next session.

I simply make myself...I detest exercise most of the time....but i find ways to stay active all day. Better than gaining all of the weight back. When you're at goal, you have to work just as hard to keep it off as you did trying to lose the weight

I used to absolutely HATE to exercise. A few months ago I decided I really had to start doing it, and you know what? Once I got in the habit, I discovered I don't actually mind it so much. It will never be one of my favorite things, and when it's time to get up in the morning to go to water aerobics, almost every time I would rather stay in bed. But I just make myself get up anyway.
I started out walking. To keep myself entertained, I got books on tape from the library and listened while I walked. I also walked in different places so I had new stuff to look at. Then I joined the Y, and I now do water aerobics three times a week. I walk two or three other days a week. The class helps me stay motivated because I have to show up at a certain time for it. I think it also helps that I am paying for it. I don't want to waste my money, so I go.

Can't wait to "be motivated"...you just have to schedule "appointments" at least 3 times a week...and STICK TO IT!

You have to make yourself like others have already stated. You are your own worse enemy. When I'm working out in one thought I'm telling myself "man I'm exhausted. I'm going to stop." and then in another I'm telling myself "you aren't tired. Don't start talking yourself out of it. Keep moving!"
I have to battle myself everytime I excersise. I haven't given up yet. I have excepted that I'm just one of those people that will have to do some sort of excersise for the rest of my life.
I would suggest you find and activity that you enjoy. Whether its walking, bicycling...something that will get that heart rate up and going.

Like everyone else has said you just do it whether you want to or not. I don't really see it as an option. It's so important for overall health. You just have to do it just like all of us girls go in for our annual pap. None of us enjoy it but we all do it.

Buddy up with someone who's a gym rat and they will keep you motivated. I walk during lunch with a friend of mine who's real petite (125 lbs). She wants to be down to115. Anyway, she asks me to walk everyday, rain or shine, whether I want to or not, so she keeps me motivated. Otherwise, I'd throw in the towel because I hate exercising too. But once you see the results, this will also be a great motivator. I have muscle definition now I never thought I'd have.

For me it's PURE FEAR of bouncing back! You're in the honeymoon period right now (GREAT LOSS BTW!) be motivated by the fact that exercise will maximize your immediate result, and will help you with the loose skin, etc that often results.
You took on this surgery for a new way of life, and part of that starts in your head...good luck! I can't miss a day now...
