Can't afford gym. Help!
I lost my job and with it, my gym membership. I can't afford to replace it right now. Can those of you who aren't gym members tell me what you do for exercise? My weightloss is slowing down, and I am thinking I need more exercise!

I walk. Every day and then I do push ups, crunches, squats and jumping jacks (modified). I can't afford a gym either and that has really been helping me. Good luck! Sorry to hear about your job. Hopefully this will open doors for other opportunities for you.

Get some 3lbs weights and walk.
**while walking twist your waist a bit more.
**walking or stationary extend the weights up over your head and bring them back down at a 90 degree angle
**while stationary hold the weights out in front of you do some squats.
Twisting will help shed inches around your waist. Walking will help you shed pounds. The weights will help tone your arms. The squats will work your butt & thighs.

Hi Joanna - Have you thought about going back to the basics? Calisthenics? Just Google it and you should find all sorts of exercise routines.

I do aerobics videos. I absolutely love Denise Austin because her stuff isn't too hard. She has a video that combines strength training and Cardio, as well. Pilates is also a great workout to tone your body.

So far I've mostly been walking. Just got back from a two mile walk, as a matter of fact.
But is there a YMCA near you? Many of them do reduced-fee memberships for those in need. I recently filled out the application at my local Y and am waiting to hear back from them.

Start with Squats. Then Squats while you also lift some weight. Could be some household item. Start mixing in forward and reverse lunges. Look for some inexpensive bands with a door jam attachment. You can do countless muscle building exercises with them.

I walk too. 2.2 miles on my lunchbreak everyday. In additon, I ordered some Lisa Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds DVDs (1-mile, 3-mile, and 5-mile videos). The key is find something you love and you don't have to pay for gym memberships. I hate exercising but can tolerate walking and listening to my MP3 player. I also took the kids skating one day and skated for 3 hours. I haven't done that in what, 10 or 15 years??? I went to a club with friends this weekend and danced my butt off for 3 hours, so it's easy to squeeze in some form of exercise for free.

alot of people dont know this but YMCA has a scholarship program, I applied for one and my family of 4 is only $20 a month for 6 months, but you have to reapply every 6 months, kid programs are included too..not a very bad deal at all. hope this helps..

Yes you can always ask the owner of the gym for a break. Most of the time they will give you a discount. I would start with the gym I was going to since they already know you and know your just not out to get something for nothing. Other than that......I was given good advice by a member here who is a personal trainer......Inky-E......his words has stuck in my head.....he said "Just keep your body moving."
