Question Target Heart Rate

I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. How important is staying in your "Target Heart Rate" zone? According to all the calculators out there my Target heart rate range should be 135 - 157. That seems really low to me. I wear a heart rate monitor when I'm on my elliptical - and my heart rate averages between 160-165, and when I'm really pushing it gets up to 170-175. Should I stop pushing? I'm assuming that with more exercise my heart rate will actually decrease so I can push harder.

Does anyone know?

Lori

No never stop pushing. 175bpm is fine in sprints.

It is great to be in your "target heart rate" but it will go down to where it needs to be. Mine was up over 210 but now it is much better.

At my gym, I did a test to tell me at which heart rate I am buring the most fat calories and carb calories. My low heart rate range is 144-154 this is my Zone 1 as they call it. This is also where I burn the most fat calories. My zone 2 is 155-161 here I burn fewer fat calories but more total calories, and so on and so forth. It is always good to push your heart rate up. This makes your heart stronger. I would keep on what your doing, but maybe add 10-15 mins where you are walking and keeping your heart rate in the low range.

This was my first time on in months. Probably will be again for awhile. I'm glad I caught the thread and was able to help you out some. Take care of yourself and always keep pushing.
