I REALLY need some encouragement please..
I don't know why I cannot seem to find the strength, commitment, energy, motivation (whatever you want to call it) to start an exercise regime!!!!
I don't understand what's wrong with me......I am 2 1/2 months out and of course still losing--- I don't know if it's because I am still losing that I think I am exempt from this...
the worst part is I feel AMAZING when i do exercise...
I am not one to be lazy or try to take the "easy road"... I fantasize about being an ass kicken excercise FREAK!!
please tell me I am not alone!! I need some motivation, advice, etc..

Julia,
I know exactly how you are feeling. I couldn't exercise for the longest time at the beginning...I wanted to but I had no motivation. It wasn't until early this year, and that's 2 years post-op, that I finally started running with the purpose of preparing myself for the job I'm in the process of applying.
Anyway, I think it takes time to find the right exercise and you really need to try all kinds of things and see which you enjoy the most. HTH Good luck!

Julia,
I understand you completely!
Put on the radio, dance for yourself to the music (on your own). Just move your arms, sway your body, "warm up". Even that little feels good. Then you'll feel more "alert" and will have increased energy levels, enabling you to borrow a dog for a longer walk. Keep the radio on, keep moving to the music and you'll soon be on your way!
Cheers,
Vim

Fine line
Listen, you may think I am a workout freak, but the line between us is VERY small. I do workout every day and have from the beginning, but here is why I did it.
I don't think. I don't feel. I do.
Do you ask yourself each day, gosh, do I want to brush my teeth? hmmm... no - you just do it. I used to go to the gym in the mornings, I'd put out my clothes the night before, wake up, grab a protein bar and an apple, out the door, I was on the treadmill before I knew what happened. I went every day - no thinking, no decisions. I mean, I decided if I wanted to do the eliptical or arc machine, but I was there every day.
Motivation is not a requirement. Action is all that matters. You don't have to want to do it - just do it. Does that make any sense? Beleive me, if I didn't work out when I didn't "feel" motivated, I wouldn't be out there 1/2 the time. I work out because I need to - I know I need to...
It is so hard to explain.
Its like the little voices in your head that tell you you're too old, too fat, to tired, too hormonal, whatever - those voices that tell you not to exercise. I have them too - I ignore them. It is like, "Get thee behind me Satan!" and off I go.
Just go. Don't think, don't feel, don't wonder or have angst about it, just move your butt! (I say this with great love lol)

Thanks Gina!
That is so true! We should concentrate on action regardless of motivation.
I have full time job and 2 small kids. Most of the days my motivation does not go beyond sitting on the couch and watching TV. It does not mean I should do that, right?

I say don't feel bad I am in the same boat. Just when I got myself up to 60 min on the treadmill and 30 min free weights and 1hr twice a week water aerobics. My gym closes its doors. They won't be able to reopen for 3 months. Financial problems! Well I want to buy a treadmill but I just can't seem to figure out which one I want and how much to pay. Part of that I'm sure is not wanting to part with that much money all at once. Well then people tell me to buy videos and exercise in front of TV. I kinda am not that kind of person (I feel dumb doing that) I don't know why. No one would be around to see. I will figure it out somehow. What I guess I'm saying is I am no help at all to you. I need support here too.

I confess I haven't read ALL the responses as carefully as I should have, but there's some great suggestions there....I think one thing I'd emphasize: Can you find a buddy? Someone to meet at the fitness center? Someone else, a neighbor, who'd join you or meet you there? That really helps! Just a thought.

I am so with you here, but what Gina has said makes alot of sense. I think I will reread her post a few times and make it sink in there deep inner parts of my brain.
