Default A question for runners....

Is 6 months enough to train for a 1/2 marathon?

If I start ASAP? As of now I am a brisk walker...not running yet..

I don't know much about marathons...so 1/2 marathon is 13 miles right?
Hm...6 months...I dunno if it'd be enough time to train I've been running for 4 months and I can barely do 3 miles. Do you have to run the whole 13 miles without walking? You know what it wouldn't hurt just to give it a try. Best of luck to you!

It seems like a long time to train but when your actually doing it it can become very short... lol!!

There is a marathon and 1/2 marathon on December 8th in Vegas and I think it sounds so awesome to run the strip......

hmmm... I will have to think on this one...because if I pay for the trip and the run I wouldnt let myself back out..

I know when I started running at about 200 pounds, I ended up with back and hip pain until after my plastic surgery, which is why I had plastic surgery, in fact. So what I would recommend is find a 5 k in 2 months, a 10 k in 3 months and work your way up - see what you can do. Most of these allow same-day sign ups, though if you're flying, that would be tough.

Like I said, you have to really get out there and see what your body can do and since you know you'll weigh less, that will help a lot, but if you think you can do 13 miles without walking? I donno. I am imagining doing that right now, and it sounds tough and I can run a 10K if I really want to. But there it is - motivation is very important. Now I am planning to do a century on my Bike in september - that will be something!

So see how it goes - running is very punishing for me, but I still need to lose 20 pounds - I"m rambling but it is hard to advise on something like this.

Good luck??
