Default When do I start?

I'll be 6 weeks out from surgery on Monday and so far I've only been walking. When should I start going to the gym? What's a good routine to start?

Default Good Question

I am 4 weeks post op and down 40 lbs. I am still unable to eat so staying hydrated with Sqwincher electrolyte drink and SF popsicles. I am going to start working out in the next few weeks but would like some guidelines as I do not want to end up dehydrated as I can still only sip drinks. Wat is a good start up routine and when can we increase to higherlevels of activity safely? Hope someone can provide the answers.

I'm very happy to see you are motivated to start going to the gym! Your surgeon can best advise you on when to start. I started at 2 months out. To begin with continue doing cardio, step the walk up some so you can actually get your heart rate up, thats the point behind cardio. I would also start doing some light weights with lots of reps 12-15 reps per set with at least 3 sets to start. There are alot of videos on youtube.com that illustrate basic exercises with weights and machines and how to address certain body parts. Don't forget to include legs in your weight lifting. To start learn some arm, bicep- tricep exercises and also shoulder exercises and sit-ups too.Good luck!
