STrange pains
I have a question that is kind of related to exercise, it has to do with muscle pains. I wasn't sure where to post it, so here goes.
A few weeks ago, I had a sudden burning/sharp pain in my "left" shoulder blade area. A little higher up on it. It felt like a hot knife was stuck in there. After that pain, I had mild pain in that spot most of the time and when I moved certain ways...reached with either arm, the burning/sharp pain returned.
This last week, the burning/sharp pain has not occurred in that spot. I have a dull pain there, but it is getting better slowly. On Tuesday, I suddenly got the same burning/sharp pain on my right side of my back, down low on my ribs. The burning/sharp pain has not come back since, but whenever I move, it hurts a little. I am always trying to reach back there to rub it.
Tonight, I got the burning/sharp pain in my "right" shoulder blade in the exact same spot as the first pain that I got on the left side initially.
What the heck is going on? I have never had pains like this before. I am not doing anything new. I have not done any heavy lifting, so there is no reason for there to be any muscle strains.
So any ideas what would be causing these kinds of pains? The first one was three or four weeks ago and I still have the dull pain, so they really linger a long time.
I generally am not one to complain about aches and pains and rarely take any kind of pain medications, but these are really strange. Is there any nutritional deficiency that can lead to these kinds of pains/injuries?
I see my surgeon tomorrow for my one-year follow up appointment and will ask him about it, but I'm pretty sure he will just tell me that I need to see my PCP about it.
Please share any ideas you may have.
Thanks!
-Mike-

First of all - safe travels to your re-check appt. tomorrow! I'm anxious to hear the report!
Next - I have NO IDEA about your strange pain... that sounds like a medical mystery... probably unrelated to the RNY, but who knows...
Keep us posted!

Started when I got out of bed and was walking across the room. The second one occurred when I was walking on the track at the YMCA, and the third one happened when I was just walking from my garage into the house. Really no exertion involved at all.
Thanks!

Dang Squishy, thats a tough one to call. I get weird pains from time to time and I chalk it up to age and the fact that i abused the hell out of my body for so long. Wednesday I messed up my lower back at the gym and I wasn't even lifting that heavy. But at least I know whats at the root of my pain. I think you should run it by your doc and see what he thinks. Please keep me posted on what you find is at the root of these pains and I hope they go away for good.

I put my money on having your C Spine checked out. maybe you have a lil bit of an impingement or arthritis going on... thats where I put my dollars, especially since the pain switches from side to side.
Do you have weakness lifting your arms out in front of you or pushing downward in front of you? But I would contact your Dr and see about getting a xray of your neck! HUGS to ya

Mike,
The one common thread is walking. I say - cease all walking immediately. Dude - SORRY - not making fun of your pain, I don't mean too. I hope your doc can help you in pinpointing the cause. Thoughts are with you dude.

Thanks everyone!
The doctor did not think the pains are related to the WLS at all. The only suggestion was to consider massages. I should have had him write a prescription for that!

Bridget... might be arthritis, but it feels more like muscle pain than joint pain. I don't have any unusual weakness in my arms. Thanks for the hugs!

Jim, per your advice, I have ceased all walking and instead, slither around like a snake. I now; however, have road rash on my belly. Ha Ha!

You may be right... could just be the years of wear and tear catching up with me.

Thanks my little friend! Good visit with the doctor. I'll post something separately about the 1 year checkup.
Here is the good news, though. I went for my advanced open water certification this weekend. Lots of heavy lifting of tanks, weights, etc. Lots of physical activity, swimming, diving, etc and I did not have a single pain. They all went away. So, I am now wondering if I was not getting "enough" exercise for my upper body. Lower half gets a lot from walking, biking, etc, but I admit I do little upper body work.
Feeling pretty good now!!! Thanks again for all your suggestions and concern!
