Weight lifting or what?
Just curious as to who lifts weights or incorporates weight lifting in their exercise routine. If its not your thing then please post what you do for exercise. I've been doing the whole weight lifting thing since 2 months out, I also do cardio, my definition of cardio is not a leisurely walk around the block (not that there's anything wrong with that if thats what you do ) but I'm talking about getting your heart rate up to the point that it feels like your heart is gonna explode .

Well, like I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm only a two weeks(and two days) out of surgery, so I'm not doing weights yet, but I absolutely plan to make it part of my routine.
I've been feeling great, so I think I should be able to soon. When I see my surgeon for my one month follow up, I'm going to ask him if its ok, I'm almost sure he'll say yes.
I used to work out with weights years ago and I really did good with it. Unfortunately before I had this tool, I couldn't keep up with the eating plan, gained alot of weight, got discouraged and eventually stopped, but now that I have the tool I am looking forward to taking it up again. Though cardio is very important and I plan to continue that forever, I think weight training makes both the male and the female form amazing. Increased muscle mass also leads to an increase in calories that one burns, even when at rest...so that's a bonus.
Right now, as I said I've been walking...since its only a few weeks out, I'm still of course quite heavy, so even though I'm not able to do very fast walking yet...Just moving my body for those 40 minutes makes one heck of a cardio work out. Hopefully as the weight drops and my endurance grows, I will move on to brisker walking and then jogging and or running.

Hey Mr. Inky...
Like we talked earlier about this: I haven't gone back to the gym. I am one of those women who bulk up & look scary in just 4-6 months time. I was a competitive athlete in school so I don't do anything ½way. I tend to get overzealous lifting weights. I'm trying to find an excercise program right now. I don't stroll around the blck, but have begun powerwalking to & from work. That's only 1.5 miles each way, but it IS increasing the heart rate. I think that for now, this is the best thing for me. I am not a fan of step aerobics or any other "class" activity. I prefer to be alone with my thoughts when I excercise. It helps keep my mind in balance.

women don't need to bulk up. Light weights at a heart pumping pace is much better suited for your frame anyhow.
icky I weightlift myself(been out for a few months). I posted my entire set in a thread here late last year i'll have to go and find it. Basically all free weights, lots of dumbell movement, lots of pull ups, pushups, dips, ect.
as far as cardio go's, jogging was always my cardio. It has varied in distance and pace over time. It just depends on what im after. Anywhere from 3 miles a set to 15 miles a set.
these days though since all im doing is weight management its light distance(3-5 miles most days).

But like I said, I was a competitive athlete all thru school & continued to be extremely active (til I woke up from a 6 month drunk & found myself living in Denmark!!) thru my early twenties. I am VERY competitive, mostly with myself. I can't enter a weight room & lift "wimpy" numbers. I push myself to the edge of my capabilities with regards to lifting.
Even though I'm only 5'4", i'm actually am one of those women with a medium/large frames. I know my body can carry off the "bigger" muscles.
Somehow, I don't think it has anything to do with lifting weights or excercise...I think that I could easily go overboard with it....Move my addictions around as I've done so many other times in my life...
Sorry I hijacked here..

I lift
I started after surgery with 3 days a week of lifting, doing a split body routine. I did cardio 6-7 days a week. Now, since I carry a good 20 extra pounds of muscle, I don't do but once a week of compound movement resistance training at a pretty good clip, to eek out a little cardio there. I still do cardio the other 6 days. Bike, row, treadmill, run outside, arc machine or elliptical. So if I'm doing squats, I also have dumbells in my hands and do an overhead lift when I come up from the squat. I also do isometric stuff like planks, front and sides, push-ups etc. Lots of abs. (Fun, fun, fun!)
As far as how you look, or should I say as far as how I look, it is all about decreasing the body fat percentage. I know that as I lose the last 25 pounds, the muscle I'm carrying will really show. I just hope I don't intimidate men, you know?

The times I've been most successful with weightloss is when I do weight training and cardio combined. mwf lifting and tts walking/biking.
My most successful is when I did The Firm workout tapes which combines cardio and weights into one workout. I did a tape everyday alternating upper, lower, abs, upper, lower, abs - then took Sunday off.

Did anyone lift weights or do any other sort of weight lift exercises a couple months before surgery? Just wondering if this would help??

I did, and I'm positive this was the reason why I was so fit after surgery. I recovered quickly and was back in the gym after four weeks (doctor's orders).
