Curse you, Miss Gina. I have blissfully ignored the whole "level" thing on the torture device and just went for it. But now, you've risen my consciousness and I will have to deal with this "gluteal program" you speak of. You infidel!
Seiously tho, what is a gluteal program? I'm gonna shoot for broke and assume it's for the butt...I wonder if the machine at my gym has it.
I've worked myself up to 50 minutes. And for about 49 of them my mind tells me "I can't do this...can't make it". But I just keep on truckin' and eventually the time is up. Gotta love Mike for the "Podrunner" idea. I listen to beats that are faster than what I would want to, but they spurn me on to get faster and faster.
OK...don't tell anybody this, but I have this new unspoken goal. I want to try and...can't believe I'm saying this...R-U-N. Never, ever thought I'd say that in my life...please refer back to my original post about anything that makes me turn red and wheeze. I gave up running when I got out of the Army, and even when I was in the Army, I only did it cuz someone was running behind me screaming at me. I'm not sure I can even run without someone standing behind me to yell abusive things to me. Hey, I wonder if there's a podcast for that...Hey, Mikey....

But when you put on those cute shorts and your little butt is sitting high and pretty, you will buy your PT flowers!
Hydrants...the key.

I'm gonna get some of those podcasts too. I lost all my tunes from my Ipod like, 5 months ago and am listening to such crap...
I am so glad that you are challenging yourself! The Elliptical I use at the gym has a list of programs - like, 16 or something right there on the machinge. You type in the number of the program (I have a choice of gluteal 1 or gluteal 2. #1 does the left butt cheek and #2 does the right one....j/k lol)
Next bit unsolicited advice from the infidel: To start running - #1 - go out and spend some money on some GOOD sneakers. Do not buy cheapos from Pay Less - go to a real store and get running shoes. Then, start slowly - walk for 5 min, then jog for 30 seconds or however long you can. Walk another 5 or 4 min, depending upon how you feel then jog another 30 or whatever. As you go on, the intervals get smaller for walking and longer for jogging. Make small changes every workout. Don't try to go fast yet - just get moving. Try to keep your body quiet - no extra motion - arms kind of low. Eventually you get to one min walk, one min jog and soon after that, you just jog. Maybe walk for a minute every 5 if you need to, but if you are not cramping up and you can breathe, you don't need to.
You are doing great things girlfriend!! You should step back and kiss your bad self!

When to Start Excercising
Hi! My surgery is in within 30 days (hopefully) I am going thru insurance hell right now. The Dr's assistant told us tht you will be awaken every 30 minutes throught the night to walk. With that said, what do you do when you get home? I have a treadmill.

Um, are you going to have your own personal nurse? There is NO WAY IN H E L L your floor nurse is going to be able to get you up ever 30 minutes at any time during the day, forget night, to walk. They will have too many other patients to take care of as well.
I think she was smoking something when she said that.
Have you started exercising yet? If not, get out and start walking. Any amt. of time you can do is good.
After you get home, walk. A treadmill may be too "jarring", others may have a better idea.

lol @ Duckie.
They told me that too! Of course it didn't happen. I walked anyway. I didn't wait for them to come get me.
Walking will actually speed up the healing process. Just don't overdo it at first. When I got home, I walked around my complex in my bathrobe and slippers. I just didn't give a damn. It helped immensly.

Thanks pals for the inspiration! Up half an hour earlier tomorrow and off to the gym BEFORE my dog walking! The poor darlings won't know what'll be hitting them - power walking before they know it!
Keep up the good work, humour, posts and camaraderie!
Cheers,
Vim

Debbie! Good for you! The elliptical always intimidated me too...I have knee and hip issues, and thought I wasn't strong enough. I can do the treadmill, no problem if my knee isn't hurting, and the recumbent bike with a book is heaven...(not really, ugh), but I felt like I wanted some variety...so one day between my half hour on the treadmill, on the way to my half hour on the bike, I hopped on the elliptical...i forced myself to stay on for 3 minutes that first day...and now I'm up to 30 minutes! Makes me proud. so now, I'm happy to say, I mix it up. Most days, I start with the 30 on the Elliptical, because if I didn't...I don't think I could make it that long. I like that the elliptical makes you sweat, and burns more calories than the others...omg what is happening to me?
