I think anything that gets your body moving is great! I would love to go to water aerobics but our local Y offers them only in the mornings and I have to work

Kel is right - if it'll get you moving, do it.

And exercise in water a great way to kick start an exercise routine. Early out of surgery, we're still on the puffy side which can be hard. Being in water is easier on the joints.

Go for it - I know that Claire (in-Texas) did (maybe still does) a lot of it - but she's now all skinny and works out on a Total Gym!

I love my water aerobics classes! I've had a cold and dozens of things going on with house selling - so I haven't been in two weeks! Can't wait to get back at it on Thursday!

I will be adding weights at the gym eventually --- this is a great way to get me started tho!

I started out with water aerobics and I loved it. I still take it once or twice a week. You can actually get a really good cardio workout from it if you really use that water resistance. I also like the stretching benefits.

I'm 56 now. So I am probably "one of the older people." I liked water aerobics when I had an instructor that silenced the chatter of some of the people who didn't seem to be taking it real seriously. I was sort of blown away when I realized I was sweating while in a pool...I'd never had that happen before. But if you have joint issues or need to start back easy regarding your exercise, I should think your water aerobics would be a great way to start. After that, I'd strongly recommend you spend the bucks to get a personal trainer to help you develop a workout routine for you...a combination of cardio and weightlifting. In fact, because my bad hip keeps me off the tredmill, I lift weights as a cardio workout, I simply do NOT rest much between lifts. AND fear not, you won't become muscle-bound, you will simply look more toned.
GO FOR IT! I wish you all the best. AND--is there someone who could be your 'work out buddy' becuase that just makes it all easier.

What city and state are you in? The gym that I go to (24 hour fitness in Carlsbad) has a very young crowd (well we are in our mid 20's and 30's)in the evenings. If your gym has multiple location you might want to check out one thats close to a business park. When I used to go to the one by my old apt in the morning the crowd was a lot older but they were nice and I liked taking the class with them.

I took aquafit at Gold's Gym right after my complications and pneumonia, and I really loved it. It helped me get my lung function back, as well as tone up some of the the excess flabbage as it was coming off. There were young and old there....but the thing I love about it is that you can go at your own pace. You get out of it what you put into it. Once my year was up, I quit Gold's. I do miss the aquafit, but am okay with my treadmill at home, and I do some free weights. I'm not good w/exercise. I just am not consistant....but I try...off and on.... It's a struggle! Good luck!

Default water

I love water aerobics. I started in the warm water class for those people with arthritis (or fat and out of shape, in my case) and then moved on to water walking. Now I am taking deep water fitness. It's fantastic! Keep up with it!
