Default Bikram Yoga

Oh my gosh I have a new passion. I have just started practicing Bikram Yoga and it is the most amazing workout I have ever experienced. I am a beginner so I can't do all of the poses but I love the way I feel afterwards. I am relaxed, yet energized and all the sweating from the heat leaves me feeling clean and purified. If you get the chance to take a class I highly recommend it. Any yoga class pretty much rocks but Bikram's is by far my favorite. Here are some links for reference, just in case you are not familiar and are interested:

Bikram's Yoga College of India

The 26 postures (don't worry, they have modifications for each)

Bikram Yoga Postures in Sanskrit

This is the website for the center I go to, the are in North County-San Diego:

Bikram's Yoga College of India, Encinitas / Oceanside

I'm amazed at how flexible I've become, especially since this is only the 3rd week of practicing. I discovered last night that I could do the standing head to knee touch! I don't know what possesed me to attempt it because I have always staying in the beginning modification pose, but yesterday I decided what the heck...I'll give it a try and I did it.

This is the pose:

Of course I don't look as graceful but I can hold the pose for at little over half the stance time before dropping into the modification. I'm actually kind of proud of myself.

Oh p.s. I've been on a plateau for the last 3 months. The scale has not budged on inch, since starting this style of yoga I have lost 7lbs in 2 1/2 weeks...It really has an affect on my appetite and what I want to eat...salads and fruit and lots of water.

I feel so corny for posting this but I really am so thankful that I discovered yoga. For the first time in my life I can see my muscles. This form of exercise has given me better results then when I paid to see a trainer and was working out at the gym constantly.

90 minutes/5 days a week and it's pure pleasure.

Kristi - I am jealous that you have a place near you - near enuf that you can do 1.5 hours 5x week.. good for you.. keep up the water, for sure!

I may even get to schlepping to the Boston place (about 25 miles from my house) once I hit the looser's bench! Right now my favorite position is the one where you just lie there concentrating on your breathing!

(A real beginner in basic yoga, but have heard about and admired Bikram for a long time!)

I hope you do get into it, even if you don't do Bikram. I take a regular Hatha class 2 times a week at my gym and find it very worth while as well.

It is very convenient for me, only a couple of blocks from my apt. so I just walk there and back. I'll admit that there are days when I can't wait for savasana to roll around. I've been on vacation for the past two weeks and didn't get to attend any classes. Tonight is my first day back. Hopefully, I haven't forgotten too much of my practice.

Best of luck with your practice.

I have heard great things about this Yoga in particular. A lot of the people I work with do it. I would like to try it sometime and I am so happy for you that you have found a new passion!
