Default thigh numbness?

I've been having numbness in the outside of my thighs (above the knee, below 2 " below the hip). It's the whole side of my right thigh in particular. The left has the same sensation just not as severe. If I go on my long walk it happens. my thigh just feels like it falls asleep. no tingling to wake up though.. just numbness. It does not effect my being able to walk though. It's a weird sensation. I went to the mall tonight and walked for a while and had the same sensation again. I went shoping at the groc. store yesterday and it happend again. What in the world? I'm wandering if this is part of the weight loss reaction to my body changing. Has any of you gone through this?

Sounds like a pinched nerve somewhere... probably in your back! Be sure to mention it to you doctor on your next visit!

Janine, I suffer from the exact same thing. Doesn't happen all the time, just from prolonged walking or standing. As I've been told, it is from the shifting of weight downward causing pressure on the sciatic nerve and is mostly from water retention. I've noticed that I'm getting skinny on top, but getting bigger in my hips and thighs, so I personally think that explanation bears out.

glad to hear someone else experiences this strange sensation. It didn't happy pre-op and my body is going through major changes. I thought it was because the fat/muscle was being redistributed and some places more than others. therefore was causing the numbness. I was scared and still am some, I go to the doc tomorrow and I'll discuss it with him. Hope it's a nothing that will clear up in the future on it's own.

thanks...

Let me know what the Doc says Janine. I've been tested to see if the nerve was pinched before with negative results, and was told I'll have this issue till I lose the weight. It will be interesting to see what you hear.

Default doc response to thigh numbness

I askes dr Juarez about my thigh numbness and he said.

I've lost alot of weight...
the nerves in my thighs used to have alot of fat surrounding them that are now shrinking
It takes time for all the nerves to settle down and as our bodies shrink and change the nerves are somewhat exposed to new elements, a new surounding of sorts.
It's quite common
Sometimes the redistribution of fat and muscle causes presure on some nerves in the thigh that causes the numbing sensation.
It will all work out... keep walking

I had the same thing for about a year and a half before the surgery. The doctor told me it was a pinched nerve like the other posters were saying. It's gone with the weight loss, but now I have an area on my back where it's happening. Never a dull moment!
