As I've stated in another post, I hated being part of the gym and if it haden't been for my dietician I would have never joined in the first place. After 3 months of such nonesence (in my mind) I ended the torment and started something else. It's called "Geocaching". I found it on the web at Geocaching.com. It's a hide and seek type of game where things are hidden and the whereabouts are listed on the web by coordinates. So I have a hand held gps and I key in the coordinates and get in the car till I am within range and start walking till I discover the find. Usually, it's a container that contains a log book and some trinkets (to exchange). All I do is sign the book and if I have something I'll exchange it, like a smiley pin for a doggie key chain or something like that. It all takes time and hiking to accomplish and some are very challenging.

My goal is to return to a couple of mountains in my area because I was unable to make it to the stash at the top of them. both are a 3 mile hike that elevates over 1000' up. The tortalitta mountain I've tried 2x and failed and the Picacho peak that I failed to climb also.

I'm 13 days post-op and I've managed to add a block a week to my walking and I intend to keep adding a block a week till I reach my goal of 3 miles a day. I walk 2x everyday.

I hope I can be able to climb that raskly mountain by decemeber if the weather doesn't keep me down.

I can't seem to motivate myself to move other than TKD...and need someone to come drag me outa this slump by my hair if necessary!!! I am not a gym rat...those places creep me out...I do however need a good kick in the fanny.. Anyone with steel toes on willing to give that a shot??

Self motivation is pretty hard no doubt. There is only so much people can take away from stories on here and threads.

Might I suggest a trainer if you are having problems with motivation. Find a way to start making yourself accountable if you don't do what you are supposed too.

The hotter the trainer, the higher the motivation, by the way.

Hey Zen, aren't you in school, bunch of kids, married etc.? Is it possible that TKD is enough? What is the issue??

My name is Dan and I am from the uk. I had my op on 30.10.07. I lost 17lbs in 6 weeks leading to my op and then another 16lbs in the following week. I am just starting to feel up to doing exercise. I really want to get in to it as soon as I can. I live with my Dad and he's very generiously went out and bought for me a new treadmill. I also have to my disposal a punch-bag, a weight bench and free weights.

Can anyone suggest to me an execirse program? I want to lose as much weight as I can as well as toning up at the same time. At the moment I don't want to bulk up (I do say 6 months down the line). I'm only 5ft 7in, and my frame is quite stocky. I know I will never look skinny (which I don't want, I do want to have great frame).

Any suggestions will be greatly recieved!!!

Thanks guys!!!

Best thing for you dude is to concentrate on loosing the fat right now. Only way to do that is higher heart rate exercises that burn. After you've cut most of the fat from your body then you can worry about shaping your body with weights.

Basically don't worry about hitting the bench. Worry about hitting the treadmil.

As usual...Your job now is to lose the weight. I started lifting right away (mostly because it is the part I really enjoyed - much more than the cardio when I was heavy) and now I have too much muscle. Maybe not a huge issue if you're a man, but I'm also not at goal weight yet - there is a relationship. Now I do only two full body strength training sessions a week and every other day is cardio. Gotta get that fat off, you know?? Just burn as many calories as you can, eat clean and smart and it'll all take care of itself.

Good luck and enjoy the ride!
