Question Did everyone start out like this?

I've finally got my butt in gear and have started really exercising on a regular basis. I try to walk as much as I can and have joined Curves. I also just bought an elliptical machine to help me out on days that the weather is bad or I'm stuck at work and can't make it to Curves. I'm almost 3 months out and have lost 71.5 pounds total since I started the process. Since I started exercising I walk as much as possible during the day at work and have a co-worker that will walk with me at lunchtime for about a 1/2 an hour. After work I try to go to Curves and push myself as hard as I physically can for 30 minutes, however today after running errands all morning I got on the elliptical machine with the lowest resistance I thought I was going to die after 3 minutes. Has anyone else had something like this happen when they started out? Is it just because it is working my body harder? I'll keep plugging away on the elliptical to get more exercise in today, but it is going to take a really long time doing 3 minutes at a time!!!

Just keep going at it...I'm only four weeks out so can say for sure, but I've been on my recumbent bike ever since the first day I got out of the hospital...Start out at 5 minutes but now am up to 30 minutes twice a day...Maybe you've just gotta build up to it...Or maybe you should stick w/the walking for now...I'm sure someone else on this forum can give you more advice having been there...But mainly, just keep moving, any way you can...Sounds like you're doing great w/the walking and walking at lunch and Curves...Remember the weight came on alot quicker...And your body is adapting...Best of luck to you...

I have found with the elliptical that I have to really watch my pace. I can get on it and go balls to the walls but I'll only last a couple of minutes and my heartrate is through the roof. If I slow down and go at about what my walking pace is on the treadmill then I can last 30 mins. Not to say that my legs aren't sore the next day but I can do the 30 mins of a weight loss program and keep my heart rate at around 145 or so which is still a little higher then I'd like but not terrible.

I would say that if you're going full tilt on the elliptical then it's going to be a slower build up of your time but if you can slow it down then you'll be able to do it longer and may get more beinifit out of it.
