Default exercising x 2.5 weeks...now plateau...

Okay, I'm sure you've heard this one before...or much similar to it...Had surgery RNY three weeks ago today...Was in 3.5. days and started exercising (recumbant bike) the day I got out...Am up to 30 minutes+ daily...Also, have slowly been building up the resistance on it...Can tell am toning up in abdomen and especially legs...Have been at a weight loss plateau x one week now...Trying not to get frustrated...Do you think am just building up muscle now and that it will start to come off again?.......Have basically been doing only protein supplements, diet jello and scrambled egg whites/fat free cheese...Or do you think maybe I should increase the protein shakes?...Was taking 5 daily when got out but one week ago was okayed to go to soft diet and have cut back to one shake daily...Thanks in advance for any advice and words of encouragement...

I also want to start lifting some small hand weights to work on arms and upper body, eventually, after get okay from doc...But don't want to put on any weight, either...

you are only 3 weeks outta surgery. My best advice would be to keep doing what you are doing and chill about the weight. I realize that is a tall order sometimes but, people focus way way too much on the number. You need to be checking inches on your body, waist size if you are a man/dress size if a women, and trying to get your BF% measured. Those are really the numbers that matter.

Your weight will come off you will have periods of weight adjustment. The best advice I can give you is keep increasing your workouts as you go along. Every week push harder and longer. The weight will fall off of you as long as you aren't eating too many calories. Stay positive and keep it up. You are already doing alot more than most post op patients and you are only weeks outta surgery. That is very encouraging. So just keep it up and keep the faith.

I haven't asked for someone to be part of the the gym rat club in quite awhile but, I wanna ask you. Would you like to join? check the thread in this section and let me know. You seem like you would fit right in.

Either way congrats on the surgery and congrats on your new found determination to get your life in order. Exercise is vital, vital to your health and your continued weightloss. Don't fret the lbs will fall.

Way to go!

Default I'd keep up the protein too

John is right - the weight is gonna come off. Don't stress about that. Yea - you may be building muscle, the body doesn't work in a linear way so who knows what it is doing. 14 months out, I still don't really know what my body is going to do.

However, if you're not taking in many calories, which you're not, I'd make sure I was getting in enough protein if I were you. I do at least 100 grams a day, but I do work out every day. Most doctors recommend about 65 grams a day.

Most of all - you're going to be so happy you're in the gym when all is said and done! I haven't lost all my weight, but I am so pleased with how my body has changed and reshaped - it is a very nice benefit besides all the good it does for your heart etc.

Keep up the good work. The weight will come off. I haven't actually lost any weight for several months now..but people still tell me I am losing. I guess because even though the scale isn't moving, I am toning or building muscle or something by going to the gym! Either way, I'm still going, and am looking and feeling good. I am not letting the scale dictate how I feel...I'm just going by how my little clothes feel, and by what the mirror tells me, and of course public opinion! lol!
