I have a question about Exercise. How soon after surgery ( five weeks out) can I start doing sit ups, push ups and ect...... The weather is getting cold and until christmas when I get my treadmill I'm on my own.

Hello!
I had open RNY. My Surgeon would not let me do anything until after 6 weeks had past. After that, he said to take it slow, but that I could start doing crunches, step aerobics, and other exercises.

Thanks John! I appreciate the support! I am trying to start some weight lifting too, but every time I try to do upper body work, I get nauseous. It has happened to me as long as I can remember (since high school anyway). It is probably just something I have to push through.
I definitely want to increase my upper body size and strength. A big reason is that I am thinking I can fill some of the excess skin in my chest with muscle and get rid of that sagging skin (Not a good look).
It has also been interesting to learn that I am not as strong as I thought I was. I have come to the realization that I used my weight for leverage a lot. So, I have a lot of good reasons to increase my upper body, I just need to commit to it.
Thanks again!

Yeah I hear that man. I lost 250lbs and all of a sudden im a weakling. lol. So I started to lift some and build my upper body back atleast a little bit.
I hated looking and feeling weak. Maybe thats a man complex but, I wanna look big and be atleast somewhat strong.
How else am I gonna protect my women. haha

Oh no the looking and feeling weak is not a gender complex, seriously ... let me share something with you. I have worked as a nurses aid for ever now, I have been lifting people twice my size for 17 years. Soooo anyway I go and have this WLS done and lost all my weight, by the time my doctor released me back to work I couldn't do it. I learned real quickly that all these years I was using poor body mechanicks (spell sorry). I realized that when I was lifting people I would rock forwad and when rocking back I would lift them with my weight. Well after that I was so disapointed and weak wimpy feeling, cause I couldn't do my job, even hitting the gym I havent gained the strength I need to survive in the world I work in. So yea I feel so weak and wimpy and very embarrassed that other women / young adults can lift and man handle any job given to them..... welll any just wanted to say I understand fully!!!! later...
