Default Elliptical Machines

I am looking for opinions on Elliptical Machines. I want to get one for my house but there are so many to choose from and such a wide range of prices.

So I thought I would come to a group of people who always seem to have information So if you can let me know what type of elliptical machine you like and what you like/don't like about it.

Thank you so very much!!!

Default Check the stride length, smoothness

Different machines have a different stride length - the standards are 15, 20 and 22 inches. You should pick the one that's right for your stride regardless of brand.

Default Practical consideration

I would see how much room you have to put it in, then go to the local sports stores and try them out. Check if they pick up a heart monitor signal, check what kind of programs they have, if you like the readout, if it wobbles when you get going really fast, etc.

Here is the link to the one I got. I love it! I have been on it almost everyday since it got here. I am only able to do 15 minutes as of today LOL but that is up from the 5 min I was able to do on the first day.

This is semi-offtopic.. but I have an elliptical machine for sale if anyone is in South Carolina. LOL My husband bought me one a couple years ago, and (typical man) didn't buy me the one I asked for...and consequently got one that has a stride that's too short for me (I'm 6'0 tall).

Hope you enjoy yours!!! I love them at the gym... now if someone could just tell me why my feet go to sleep when I use them...hahaha

wow thats seriously awesome. They say the bench mark is 30 minutes so you are already half way there and you just started!

You are doing great. Its truely a great machine since its viturally no impact and great at getting you're heart rate in the desired range and keeping it there.

awesome job! Keep it up

The elliptical is my cardio machine of choice these days, due to my knees, and I had the same problem initially. There are a couple of ways to avoid this--and you do need to avoid having your feet go numb, as it means there's nerve pressure going on.

1) If you aren't already, make sure you switch to going backwards every five to seven minutes, and go backward for at least two minutes before switching again. I listen to music while I'm "running" on the elliptical, and I just switch every song.

2) Change your upper body posture, as well, lean forward, lean back.

3) "Run" on your toes for a while, then switch back.

4) "Run" flat-footed, but lift the heel of the leg that's uppermost on each stride for a while, so you're stretching the arch and ball of the foot. Sounds funny, but easy to do. I just basically use it as kind of a dance step to whatever music I'm doing.

I went with a Precor model for my home use - not cheap but it provides a good workout. My favorite method is to go backwards on it.
