Default Baggy skin

Question: I know that exercising will help with muscle tone but will it help with the baggy skin on my legs and arms? You guys & gals are such a wealth of knowledge. Is it all in vain? Or are there any special techniques out there that will help. Plastic surgery is not an option right now. Thanks!

Sharon

Exercising won't change the skin itself at all--nothing will, unfortunately. It MAY bulk up the muscles a little bit though, which would fill the skin out better.

Some of the new lotions claim to help firm up skin and I plan on using them if and when I have this surgery, just in case they might help the skin shrink better as the rest of me does, but for the most part (unless it's still quite young skin), once it's stretched, it's stretched.

As we age, elastin production in the skin is reduced and depleted. For severely stretched skin, skin that has been stretched, reduced, re-stretched...the elastin and other fibers are replaced with connective tissues which don't, "bounce" back. Some people are lucky by genetics, luck, etc...and don't have too many skin issues. Others, myself included, have put their skin through the gauntlet of stretches and reductions over time that has pretty much destroyed any hope of it smoothing out. YOU do have an option though...Staying MO would keep all that skin nice and filled out.... . It's all about priorities...

I recently read about a "liposuction technique" with laser. They can use the laser on the INSIDE on the skin and it tightens it up. I don't know all the details, but I would think it may be of use to us.

Default Thanks for the responses

I was hoping that MAYBE there was something I could do that would help but as you said I have abused this poor old body over the years. I'm having surgery wednesday next week, but after that I hope to get back on track with the exercising, walking and swimming. Maybe if the muscles tome up a bit again I'll feel a little better about the mirror. Thanks again for your repies.
